First Images of Asus & Xbox’s Handheld May Launch Soon

Images of the Asus ROG Ally 2, along with a unique Xbox edition, have surfaced in an FCC filing, hinting at a potential release that could be closer than anticipated.

For quite some time, there’s been talk about a potential portable Xbox device, and Microsoft has openly acknowledged this speculation on numerous occasions.

On various social media platforms, Asus shared a tantalizing video hinting at the upcoming launch of a new generation ROG Ally, to which the official Xbox account responded. This online exchange fueled speculation among fans, suggesting that these companies might be collaborating, as previously speculated, for the development of a handheld device.

On May 7, 2025, images of two models of a fresh Asus portable device appeared in the FCC’s listings for its WiFi module, and one of these models sports an Xbox button on its front side.

New Asus ROG handheld could be long-awaited Xbox device

According to the FCC listings, there are now two fresh variants of the handheld device available in both white and black hues. Each model features an additional button on the left side, positioned next to the joystick.

As a fan, I noticed an interesting difference between the two variants. The black one boasts an Xbox logo on its button, while the white model is simply a solid color. Since the images don’t show the screen being turned on, it remains a mystery whether the Xbox variant will come with additional special software or if the button will merely open the gaming app developed by Microsoft.

The FCC documentation doesn’t provide extensive details about the handheld’s specifications, but it does highlight some key features. In the Xbox version, there’s a 7-inch LCD display that refreshes at 120Hz, along with an 8-Core AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme CPU. Conversely, the white model sports a smaller 4-core processor.

The redesign of the ROG Ally 2 features a significant shift from its initial boxy appearance. Instead, it sports ergonomic grips on either side, reminiscent of the PlayStation’s Portal design.
