First glimpse of gameplay in Star Wars: Zero Company first trailer

At this year’s Star Wars Celebration event, we finally got a sneak peek at the initial trailer for the upcoming strategy game, titled Star Wars: Zero Company – a turn-based tactics title set within the timeframe of the Clone Wars. The trailer ran for approximately two minutes and hinted that the action takes place during the Clone Wars era of Star Wars. Towards the end, we caught a glimpse of the gameplay, which bore a striking resemblance to games like XCOM. This upcoming addition to the Star Wars universe is expected to hit shelves in 2026.

Star Wars: Zero Company first trailer and glimpse at gameplay

The game titled “Star Wars: Zero Company” is being developed by Bit Reactor, a studio composed of ex-developers from games like XCOM and Civilization. This team, along with Respawn and EA, are also responsible for other Star Wars titles such as Jedi: Survivor and Fallen Order. As stated on EA’s website, “Zero Company” will allow players to lead an elite squad through a realistic and authentic storyline set during the final stages of the Clone Wars. The game centers around a team of five mercenaries who are active beneath the harsh realities of the impending war’s conclusion.

It appears that “Star Wars: Zero Company” will revolve around a team of five characters. On EA’s website, it is mentioned, “You will embody Hawks, once a Republic officer and now the leader of Zero Company – an unusual group of mercenaries recruited from various corners of the galaxy…” While we know about the leader, there are four other captivating characters hinted at in the trailer. One is a character skilled in lightsaber combat and the Force. We wonder how this individual joined Zero Company; did they depart from the Jedi Order at some point in their past?

Besides the Mandalorian, there’s also a former Clone Trooper among the characters. Pondering why he became a mercenary instead of staying with the Republic army raises intrigue. Additionally, it’s worth considering Order 66 and whether this trooper still carries the programming to attack their Jedi counterpart upon receiving that command at the end of the Clone Wars. This could create an exciting dramatic twist in the storyline.

In the end, I can’t help but wonder about the fifth character constantly donning a space helmet. I’m curious about their backstory, and moreover, why they require such protective gear. It’s puzzling because another human in the group doesn’t seem to need a space helmet, and breathing on a Star Wars planet isn’t usually an issue. My guess is that the planet might be underwater, making them some sort of aquatic being. If so, that would certainly add an interesting twist.

As a gamer, I found myself squaring off against swarms of battle droids at the game’s climax – age-old adversaries from the Clone Wars era. Now, this band of hired guns isn’t strictly confined to fighting droids, but it piques my curiosity: what drove some of these characters to abandon the Republic and follow their own paths? I can hardly wait to discover where this story leads us. Star Wars: Zero Company is slated for release in 2026, and you can add it to your wishlist on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation, or Xbox.
