As a seasoned Marvel fan with over two decades of comic book movie-watching under my belt, I must confess that the “Thunderbolts” trailer left me feeling more like I was watching a “Fantastic Four” reboot than a much-anticipated MCU event. The lineup, while diverse, lacks the star power and intrigue of other superhero teams.

The idea of the Thunderbolts has always been an intriguing one. Stories revolving around a group of reformed supervillains working for the United States government is ripe with potential. It’s Marvel’s execution of that idea that has often been suspect. Now the Marvel Cinematic Universe is preparing to release their big screen version of the antihero supergroup and so far it hasn’t looked encouraging. The lineup hasn’t sparked much enthusiasm and neither does the newly released first trailer.

The “Thunderbolts” teaser primarily focuses on Florence Pugh’s character, Yelena Belova, who is drawn into a tangled situation alongside various anti-hero figures such as her father Red Guardian (David Harbour), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Sentry (Lewis Pullman). Although the trailer doesn’t disclose the specific reasons, this band of questionable heroes are compelled to collaborate against a significant worldwide danger. The return of some familiar faces can be seen in what appears to be a lackluster addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On May 2, 2025, the movie titled “Thunderbolts” will premiere. Here’s a sneak peek at the trailer. Let me know if you plan to watch it or not.
