First Arabic Imax Film ‘Ambulance’ Set for Sequel, With Ibrahim Al Hajjaj Returning (EXCLUSIVE)

The hit comedy “Ambulance,” starring renowned Saudi Arabian actor and comedian Ibrahim Al Hajjaj, directed by Colin Teague from Britain (known for “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood”), is all set to have a sequel with the same creative team.

The Arabic film titled “Ambulance” made its debut on Tuesday, serving as Imax’s inaugural Arabic feature film release. This film represents Al Hajjaj’s next project following his 2023 wrestling movie “Sattar,” which garnered over $30 million, primarily from domestic markets. Notably, it is the highest-grossing Saudi film since the lifting of the 35-year prohibition on commercial cinema operations in December 2017.

The latest movie starring Al Hajjaj is a hilarious farce, centered around two bickering Saudi emergency responders who accidentally discover a suitcase filled with 2 million Saudi Riyal (approximately $533,300) and unwillingly get caught up in a thrilling kidnapping and ransom scenario.

The film titled ‘Ambulance’ was written by Alberto Lopez (‘Rupture’) and produced by Al Hajjaj’s House of Comedy, Talal Anazi’s Black Light Operations, Peter Smith (former MBC Studios chief), and Muvi Studios collaboratively. This groundbreaking production had its debut on April 15 at the Imax theater at Muvi Cinemas’ U Walk in the heart of Riyadh, attracting a packed audience that included press members, Arab celebrities, and industry professionals.

The ambulance movie will make its competitive debut at the forthcoming Saudi Film Festival, the longest-standing film event in the kingdom, and it’s anticipated to be released more broadly in the Gulf region and the Middle East within the upcoming weeks.

Lopez shared that he’s working on a follow-up to “Ambulance,” slated for production by Black Light and House of Comedy. The movie is expected to start filming in October, with an anticipated release date in Saudi Arabia in April 2026.
