As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that FromSoftware never ceases to surprise me! After countless hours spent struggling against formidable foes in their games, I find myself both relieved and slightly disappointed by the recent patch 1.14 for Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
In a recent update, version 1.14, the creators of Elden Ring have introduced adjustments for the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, first unveiled in June and adding the realm of Shadow to the Lands Between. Notably, they’ve decided to reduce the strength of the formidable boss at the end of this expansion, a move that should bring relief to players who found him challenging (we won’t spoil his identity here).
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree – final boss nerfed in update 1.14
Ever since the expansion launched in June 2024, numerous fans have voiced concerns about the challenging nature of boss battles, particularly the final one. Consequently, it’s no wonder that various strategies for outwitting this formidable foe have surfaced on the internet – some players have even demonstrated ways to circumvent him or how to essentially wear him down until he succumbs to boredom.
It’s plausible that FromSoftware studio noticed these small “tricks” and decided to make it slightly less challenging for Elden Ring players to complete the expansion by tweaking certain aspects in the final battle. Here’s what has been adjusted in the expansion’s final boss encounter:
- he will have different action pattern when the battle starts;
- some of his attacks will be appropriately adapted and improved;
- some of his attacks will inflict less damage;
- he will inflict weaker attacks that reduce our stamina;
- he will have a more limited range of non-weapon-based attacks;
- the visibility of some attack effects will be improved.
Patch 1.14 also improved the balance in other aspects of gameplay
In Patch 1.14, the developers haven’t just focused on making that tough opponent easier; they’ve also worked to balance out the Player versus Player (PvP) mode. This includes reducing the damage inflicted by Backhand Blades and Pata, among other adjustments in gameplay balance, affecting weapons like swords or katanas. Notably, the speed of the initial heavy blow (R2/RT on the controller) has been boosted for several types of weapons. For a comprehensive list of all changes, you should check out the detailed description of patch 1.14 on Bandai Namco’s official website.
Additionally, it’s important to note that the repair list encompasses particular spells, like Rellana’s Twinblade, and magical incantations. Moreover, as with any update, there were typical bug fixes and suggestions for addressing possible subpar performance.
