‘Find Me Falling’ Director Stelana Kliris Sets Cast for Next Feature ‘Apart From Her’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for international cinema, I am eagerly anticipating Stelana Kliris‘ upcoming feature “Apart from Her.” The fact that it is based on her own screenplay, and inspired by personal experiences, adds an authenticity that is hard to find in many movies today.

Film director Stelana Kliris from Cyprus, who made headlines globally earlier in the year with “Finding My Feet,” is currently working on her next project and has assembled a prominent cast from various parts of the world for it.

According to Kliris’ screenplay, the film titled ‘Apart from Her’ is characterized as a dramatic thriller with a fast-paced and suspenseful atmosphere. The narrative unfolds in the year 1974, where a young woman escapes war-ravaged Cyprus through an arranged marriage only to find herself in apartheid South Africa. As she forms a bond with a local woman who conceals her own troubling past, buried secrets come to light, leading love and prejudice to clash dramatically.

The lead role in the upcoming film will be played by Leem Lubany, a Palestinian actress renowned for her work in “Omar,” which was nominated for an Oscar in 2013 and “The Old Man,” which was Emmy-nominated. Joining her will be Luke Pasqualino, known for his roles in “The Musketeers” and the recent adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s “Rivals,” as well as Girley Jazama, whose performance in “Under The Hanging Tree,” Namibia’s first submission for the Oscars, earned her a nomination at the African Movie Academy Awards.

Apart from Her” is a joint production among various international parties, featuring producers such as Susan Simnett and Jamie Harvey from Over The Fence Films based in the U.K., Ioanna Bolomyti from Atalante Productions in Greece, and Stelana Kliris producing for Meraki Films within Cyprus.

I’m absolutely delighted to collaborate with this stellar cast and exceptional team on my third feature,” I express. “In ‘Apart From Her,’ we delve into a single woman who encapsulates an entire nation’s internal struggle, offering a profound examination of cultural and personal identity that resonates against the backdrop of significant historical events. This film seems both relevant for today and eternal in its impact.

The upcoming film is set to be filmed in Cyprus, with backing from several sources: the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture, the incentives scheme offered by the Cyprus Film Commission, the Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center – Creative Greece, European Union’s NextGenerationEU program via the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “GREECE 2.0”, Creative Europe, and the SEE Cinema Network.

Leem Lubany is managed by Greene Talent, Hannah Hodgkinson, and Sandy Erickson; Luke Pasqualino is represented by The Artists Partnership, Innovative, and Authentic Talent; and Gurleen Jhaj is under the representation of Actors Garden.
