Square Enix played an April Fools’ Day joke in 2025 by imagining the iconic characters from Final Fantasy VII as high school anime romance characters. Now, towards the end of April, this playful prank is set to become a reality for fans. Starting on April 30, 2025, the free-to-play video game version of this romantic spin-off will be available on PC and mobile platforms.

While it may appear as a scholarly haven at first glance, beneath its polished facade lies a clandestine realm where youthful troublemakers engage in relentless battles, their existence dictated by a single law: strength determines right.
At Midgard Seventh High School, Cloud swings his bat in search of tougher opponents as he strives to become Midgard’s elite fighter. Yet, his childhood friend Tifa worries about his dangerous journey and devises a plan to guide him towards redemption. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Zack, the top brawler of Midgard, and Aerith, who is known as the school’s troublemaker, are causing their own share of chaos. This intricate web of events sets the stage for an epic confrontation where the honor and spirit of these young students will be tested to their limits!
Although the “Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis” event appears like a movie, its storyline is humorously penned in the manner of a shonen anime series focusing on young warriors. The initial promotional image hints at the series’ enduring conflict, with Barret Wallace reprimanding from a distance. In the second promotional shot, a youthful Sephiroth and Angeal Hewley are engaged in conversation at Shinra Private Academy, while Lucia Lin, Glenn Lodbrok, and Matt Windsor can be seen in the background.
