Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles launches September 30, 2025 with enhanced visuals, UI, and more

Square Enix has officially announced “Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles,” an updated version of the 1997 tactical RPG “Final Fantasy Tactics.” This remaster is set to be released on September 30, 2025. Initially unveiled during a PlayStation State of Play live stream, the game will be available across various platforms such as the PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch and its next version, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam. The Steam Deck is also a targeted platform for this release.

The game “Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles” is a new version of the original “Final Fantasy Tactics,” which was last re-made in 2007 as “Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions.” Notably, this will be the first time that the game is officially available on PC. This updated version will offer a revised script, fully voiced dialogue, an upgraded user interface, and improved graphics. It will also provide extra story content through additional character conversations and dialogue to enrich the game’s narrative. The English-language voice cast includes familiar faces from the “Final Fantasy” series such as Cody Christian and Briana White (known for their roles as Cloud and Aerith in the “Final Fantasy VII Remake” series) and Ben Starr, who voices Clive in “Final Fantasy XVI.

In addition to new gameplay elements, turn-based battles will be made simpler with additions like a turn sequence, strategic perspective, speed adjustments, auto-saving, and custom difficulty settings. For those seeking a more authentic experience, a “classic mode” has been included to accurately replicate the 1997 release, complete with the War of the Lions translation. This classic mode maintains the original game’s aspect ratio, user interface, and eliminates certain graphical enhancements for a more faithful representation of the classic style.

The trio comprising of Director Kazutoyo Maehiro, Art Director Hiroshi Minagawa, and Scenario Writer/Editor Yasumi Matsuno shared their thoughts with fans and players via posts on the Square Enix blog.
