During the PlayStation State of Play event, Square Enix officially confirmed the long-awaited remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics is indeed in development, as hinted by previous rumors. A fresh trailer for the game was unveiled during the presentation, and it also revealed its planned release date: September 30, 2025.
Check out the trailer below.
The revamped version of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles offers an improved gaming experience with a modernized interface and various user-friendly upgrades, as shared on the PlayStation Blog. Among these enhancements is a newly added “Squire” difficulty level designed to make the game more accessible for beginners. This difficulty setting is particularly significant because Final Fantasy Tactics has a reputation for being challenging, with certain tough sections that could leave even experienced players stuck in intense battles. If your characters weren’t strong enough to overcome these sections initially, it might have meant starting the game from scratch, but this new difficulty level aims to alleviate that issue.
In addition to being fully voice-acted, this upgraded version features extensive modifications and enhancements to the narrative, along with other unspecified new elements provided by Square Enix.
If you prefer a retro feel, The Ivalice Chronicles offers an old-school mode with graphics and gameplay similar to those found in the original FFT. This vintage edition sticks to the “War of the Lions” storyline, which was initially featured in Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions on the PlayStation Portable back in 2007.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will be available for both PS4 and PS5.
First released in Japan on June 20, 1997 for Sony PlayStation, Final Fantasy Tactics saw a Western debut on January 28, 1998. A decade later, this tactical RPG was updated for the PSP under the title “The War Of The Lions”. This revamped version included additional cutscenes, multiplayer options, and various enhancements.
