Although the last part of the Final Fantasy VII remake series isn’t expected until 2027, fans can enjoy a new game sooner. Final Fantasy: The Board Game, officially licensed and based on the original Final Fantasy I through III, is being published by KessCo and will be available this fall.
The new board game draws a lot of inspiration from the Pixel Remaster versions of the game, while also including beautiful classic artwork by Yoshitaka Amano. Its box design is a nod to the original NES. This is just the first of several Final Fantasy tabletop games planned, meaning fans of the entire series have more to anticipate in the future.
Final Fantasy: The Board Game Is Officially Coming Later This Year
Designed by Anthony Thorp, Final Fantasy: The Board Game lets players team up and experience a world inspired by the original three Final Fantasy video games. The board game is for one to four players and aims to capture the feel of a classic Japanese Role-Playing Game (JRPG).
KessCo is creating collectible RPG dice sets based on the original six Final Fantasy video games. Many of these dice sets will be sold with Final Fantasy: The Board Game, and each set will include a sculpted character figure inspired by the classic, pixelated art style of early Final Fantasy games.
CEO Alex Kessler announced their excitement about partnering with Square Enix to create a tabletop game based on Final Fantasy. He noted the recent success of Final Fantasy tabletop games in attracting both existing fans and new players. The goal is to build on that success with a version that stays true to the beloved Pixel Remaster era while also being enjoyable, easy to learn, and collectible for tabletop gamers.
