Square Enix hasn’t yet announced the official title for the third game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, but they’re getting close. According to developers Naoki Hamaguchi and Tetsuya Nomura, they’ve narrowed down the choices to two options and plan to make a final decision before the end of the year.
Hamaguchi stated in an interview with Julien Chièze (translated by Genki_JPN) that he and Tetsuya Nomura have chosen two possibilities, and they will make a final decision within the year.
The first two Final Fantasy Remake games have followed a pattern with their titles. “Remake” simply announced a reimagining of the original, while “Rebirth” hinted at a fresh start for the series. If the third game continues this trend, what name might we expect?
While ‘Reunion’ is unlikely to be used for the next Final Fantasy 7 game – it was used for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion in 2022 – the developers are considering names like Reset, Reboot, Renew, Rebuild, Redo, Rewrite, Reshape, or Revival. According to Hamaguchi, a key focus for the game’s development is the concept of ‘Highwind,’ and the team is currently working on it.
Fans can soon experience the first part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S starting January 22, 2026, just before the release of the third installment on PC and other consoles. The Switch 2 version will require a significant amount of storage space, but will also include a feature that makes the game much easier to play.
Hamaguchi recently addressed concerns that the first two games in the series were slow-paced, promising that the third installment will feature a more streamlined story.
