Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Looks Sharper And More Detailed On PS5 Pro - Report

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that if you’re eyeing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and haven’t yet played it on PS5, you might want to hold off, especially if you’ve got a PS5 Pro in your sights. The latest reports suggest that the game runs smoother and looks sharper on the Pro version, which is set to hit shelves this fall for a cool $700.

As a fellow gamer, I’d advise you to wait before diving into Final Fantasy VII Rebirth if you haven’t played it yet on your PlayStation 5. Recent reports suggest that this RPG could potentially look significantly better on the upcoming PS5 Pro, slated for release this fall at around $700. So, if you’re looking to experience the game in all its glory, holding off might be a wise decision.

Digital Foundry opted to evaluate side-by-side Sony’s PS5 Pro footage of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and their own PS5 gameplay. The results showed that the PS5 Pro version offers a “60fps presentation,” significantly enhancing performance compared to the standard PS5, and eliminating its performance drops. In certain aspects, the Pro version at 60fps appears to surpass the base machine in its 30fps quality mode.

The video analysis displayed demonstrates that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can appear quite blurry when played on a standard PS5 with the Performance Smooth setting. However, on a PS5 Pro, the Square Enix role-playing game boasts significantly improved visual quality, whether it’s the characters or distant background details like trees. Furthermore, the texture of character skin is noticeably enhanced. As Digital Foundry demonstrates, the facial features of Barret appear more detailed in the PS5 Pro version compared to the somewhat smeared appearance on the standard PS5.

When playing Final Fantasy VII on the PS5 Pro version, you’ll generally maintain a smooth 60fps experience. However, the PS5 standard edition might encounter drops in frame rate, particularly during intense battles. This is based on findings by Digital Foundry as reported by Eurogamer. The Smooth and Sharp performance modes that were included in the initial patch for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth this year are responsible for these differences.

According to Square Enix, both Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI fell short of their expected sales targets. In future developments, they intend to incorporate Queen’s Blood into Final Fantasy VII Remake: Part 3.
