Final Fantasy 16 Producer Kindly Asks PC Players To Not Make Or Install "Offensive Or Inappropriate" Mods

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must admit that I find Naoki Yoshida’s plea for modesty in Final Fantasy 16‘s modding community rather amusing. It’s like asking a flock of seagulls not to poop on the beach – it’s just how they roll!

Before the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy 16 on September 17 for PC, producer Naoki Yoshida is politely asking players to refrain from creating or installing mods that could be considered offensive or inappropriate. This request, although it may seem futile, has a certain endearing quality to it.

In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Game Director Hiroshi Takai was asked about potential funny mods for Final Fantasy 16 once it becomes available on PC. Instead of answering directly, Yoshida politely requested that players refrain from creating offensive or inappropriate content for the game.

Yoshida mentioned that saying something like ‘It’d be great if someone made XYZ’ could seem like a request. Instead, he prefers not to discuss specifics at this time. However, he clarified that we should avoid creating or installing anything that might be considered offensive or inappropriate.

It appears that Yoshida’s statements might not be fully heeded, given the abundance of over 1,200 mods for Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Nexus Mods. Many of these modifications for the game, similar to Final Fantasy 16, once exclusive to PlayStation, focus on altering the main characters’ appearances, often by providing them with new outfits or adjusting their body shapes. However, it’s worth noting that not all mods are solely focused on revealing costumes; there are also a variety of modifications that introduce new weapons, enhance visuals, or even reduce some of the game’s grinding aspects. Nevertheless, it’s clear that modifications that reimagine Tifa, Aerith, or Cloud in skimpier outfits continue to be popular among fans.

It’s quite possible that history will echo as Final Fantasy 16 debuts on the platform. In a short while following its PC release, it seems Clive and Cid might be seen without shirts (and possibly sharing a kiss). Regardless of his attempts, Yoshida may need to accept this outcome.

Final Fantasy 16 is set to debut on September 17 for both Steam and the Epic Games Store as a PC platform. There will be two versions to choose from: the standard edition priced at $50, or the “Complete Edition” costing $70. The latter includes the additional content DLCs titled Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide.
