‘Final Destination’ Stunt Gone Wrong: 47 Stitches!

Craig Perry, the creator behind all the “Final Destination” films, is actively marketing the latest addition to the series, titled “Final Destination Bloodlines“. This new installment rejuvenates the horror franchise with intricate Rube Goldberg-style deaths and grandiose set pieces that leave you questioning the safety of any given situation. In an interview discussing the entire series, Perry shared a particularly gruesome incident that occurred during the reshoots of the first film in 2000, “Final Destination“. The movie concludes with three survivors traveling to Paris, where, as expected, death makes another appearance to settle unfinished business.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Perry walked down memory lane, recapping the major deaths from all the past Final Destination films. There’s a truck’s loose log on the road to perdition, Tod’s choking in the bathtub, and even the fence that gruesomely separated Rory’s body into segments. Yet, the one that leaves the deepest impression is the climax of the first film, where Alex, Clear, and Carter were joyously celebrating their cheat on death in Paris. Or perhaps they hadn’t outsmarted death after all?

Perry expressed that the audience had made it crystal clear which aspects of the film they appreciated and disliked, particularly the original ending. He went on to explain that this ending, where Alex sacrifices himself and Clear has his baby, didn’t align well with the overall flow of the movie. This was when he brought up the reshoots, mentioning an incident during the scene filming where a bus, supposed to run over Alex, hit a pole instead, injuring a stuntman in the process.

When the bus collides with the object that abruptly rises and strikes a sign (a do-not-park sign attached to a metal band), it causes quite a commotion. The impact dislodges the sign, which bounces off the building and hits the stuntman. He sustained 47 stitches, leaving his skin hanging over his face. This scene is included in the movie, and he can be seen asking for medical help, saying “Uh, medic?” in a shaken voice.

Initially, he didn’t return to the set that night, but later on, he did show up with a freshly shaved head and staples in his skin. He then inquired, “Can I see the shot?” To which I responded, “Indeed, you are unique. Of course, go ahead and enjoy it.

The “Death Always Finds a Way” Franchise Returns With ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’

This year, brace yourself for an intense comeback with “Final Destination Bloodlines,” the continuation of a series that last saw life in 2011 with “Final Destination 5.” Contrary to expectations, the critically underappreciated fifth installment wrapped up the franchise with a conclusive ending. But now, it seems, the story has found new life once more.

Originally conceived as a fresh take on the Final Destination series, Final Destination Bloodlines ultimately transformed into a straightforward revival of its concept. Filled with chilling deaths that will leave you uneasy and apprehensive about even your own shadow, this movie is currently showing in cinemas and has garnered an impressive 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of writing.
