Yet, when the teaser for “Final Destination: Bloodlines” showcased a gruesome killing at a piercing shop, it appears Death continues to invent unique ways to claim the lives of the main characters. The opening scene of “Final Destination 6” hints at a blaze on the Skyview Tower, and this upcoming horror film reportedly set a “world record” during production that I find disturbingly impressive.

We’ve seen fire play a role in the Final Destination movies, from seeing the passengers of Flight 180 engulfed in flames or the ridiculous death scene in The Final Destination when Carter is set on fire after being hooked to and dragged by a driverless tow truck that randomly flames up. Final Destination Bloodlines includes a flashback to 1969, which shows the crowded Skyview Tower catching fire before collapsing. Director Zach Lipovsky told EW that apparently a “world record” was achieved with a retired stunt performer achieving a maneuver that’s never been attempted before:

On numerous occasions, we ignited a multitude of individuals, setting a new world record by lighting up Yvette Ferguson, who performed a full-body burn while wearing a silver gown. This marked the oldest person ever caught on camera being set ablaze.

Despite the macabre nature of numerous individuals being portrayed as ablaze for the latest film, it’s undeniably an awe-inspiring achievement for directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein to depict the oldest person ever set alight on screen. Rest assured, this remarkable feat didn’t escape their attention. The stunt team behind Final Destination 6 even reached out to the Guinness World Records in the hopes of recognition, though they are yet to receive a response. Fingers crossed that by its 2025 release date, the film will secure a place in the record books.

As a movie enthusiast, if you’re wondering about the fiery heroine from recent times, she’s none other than Yvette Ferguson. This seasoned stuntwoman and actress was coaxed back from retirement at the ripe age of 71 to portray Mrs. Fuller in “Final Destination: Bloodlines”. Before the Skyview Tower met its tragic end, it was inside its restaurant where Mrs. Fuller mysteriously caught fire before the structure came crashing down.

Although it’s unclear how Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein presented their horror movie to an elderly person, it seems impossible to refuse the opportunity to appear engulfed in flames on screen and survive in reality. Brec Bassinger, portraying Iris in flashbacks, praised Ferguson for her fiery scene, where everyone applauded her. Absolutely deserved!

It seems like the sixth film in the Final Destination series aspires to be exceptional. Throughout the entire series, Death has not been depicted as present during the ’60s. However, since Iris managed to survive the Skyview Tower explosion, she might serve as a valuable resource for instructing her granddaughter and contemporaries on surviving similar incidents in a manner similar to hers.
