Movie Production Company, Film Factory Entertainment, has revealed their global purchase of the upcoming horror movie titled “Evil Dress” or “The Haunted Garment”. This film is a joint effort from directors Jacob Santana, famously known for “Reversion”, and Frank Ariza, recognized for “El Continental”.
As a captivated cinephile, I found myself utterly engrossed by the chilling psychological horror masterpiece that places Spanish screen legend Belén Rueda (“The Orphanage,” “The Sea Inside”) front and center. This gripping tale delves deep into the realms of maternal dread, generational turmoil, and supernatural enigma.
The movie titled “Evil Dress” centers around Alicia (Rueda), a mother who’s dealing with the fallout of a difficult divorce. In search of a fresh start, she and her daughter Carla move into a secluded house. However, what initially appears to be a peaceful environment gradually uncovers a disturbing past. As Carla establishes a bond with the spirit of a young girl through an enigmatic blue gown, the ominous history of the house starts to surface, resulting in chilling events. These events include a shocking incident causing a child to fall into a coma.
Delving deeper into this intriguing mystery, I find myself ensnared in a horrifying dreamscape that seems to have no exit. Joining me on this journey is the talented Rueda, alongside the captivating up-and-comer Vera Centenera (“Tabacco Barns”), and the legendary Elena Irureta, who portrays a neighbor concealing disturbing truths.
According to directors Santana and Ariza, ‘Evil Dress’ is a tale that explores what we carry with us – traumas, secrets, apprehensions – and the struggle to shield our children from perils that may not be found outside but lurk within. They describe it as an immersive and emotional odyssey – a profoundly personal mother-daughter narrative woven around fear.
As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but be captivated by this film that seems to have been birthed in the shadows of contemporary horror masterpieces like “The Others,” “It Follows,” “Longlegs,” and “Hereditary.” The visual language is expertly crafted by Christos Voudouris, a cinematographer whose previous works in “Before Midnight” and “Alps” have already demonstrated his ability to infuse expressionism into his work. With Voudouris at the helm, this film takes on an even more chilling, unsettling atmosphere that leaves me on the edge of my seat.
Film Factory’s director, Vicente Canales, exudes high optimism about the project, saying, “We’re delighted to collaborate with Frank and Jacob on their upcoming movie. We firmly believe that ‘Evil Dress’ holds significant global appeal and will captivate audiences worldwide.
The manufacturing process has already begun, and we’re scheduled to unveil our initial promotional clips during the upcoming Marché du Film event.
