Filipino Queer Road Movie ‘Some Nights I Feel Like Walking’ Unveils Trailer Ahead of Tallinn Black Nights Premiere (EXCLUSIVE)

As a film enthusiast who has spent countless nights immersed in the rich tapestry of global cinema, I am genuinely excited about Petersen Vargas’ latest feature “Some Nights I Feel Like Walking”. The trailer promises a raw and gritty exploration of friendship, loss, and human connection set against the backdrop of Manila’s nighttime streets – a city I’ve always found fascinating yet mysterious.

Vargas’ newest work, titled “Some Nights I Feel Like Walking,” has unveiled a trailer in anticipation of its world debut at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, which takes place in November.

The movie tracks a band of street-smart youths exploring Manila’s dark nightlife as they strive to grant their friend’s last wish. In contrast to his popular Filipino films, Vargas ventures into independent cinema with this production, focusing on themes of queer relationships and makeshift families.

Vargas has previously been involved in projects such as “2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten” from 2016, “An Inconvenient Love” released in 2022, the upcoming film “A Very Good Girl,” and “Un/Happy for You,” set to debut in 2024.

On Certain Nights, It Feels Like Strolling is headlined by Jomari Angeles (from “Ma’Rosa”), Tommy Alejandrino (“GomBurZa”), Gold Aceron (“Metamorphosis”), along with newcomers Miguel Odron and Argel Saycon. The story revolves around the relationships that develop among these characters, set amidst Manila’s bustling nightlife and the vast highways of the Philippines.

Vargas stated: “I aim to demonstrate that even amidst the gloom of Manila’s night, there is a flicker of hope. Unusual friendships are forged on these treacherous streets. There is unity in paying tribute to someone’s passing by finding their home, no matter what obstacles arise. I wish to portray an alternate version of our world, by revealing the human connections that I know thrive and endure.

The movie is a joint production from the Philippines, Singapore, and Italy, uniting influential film studios such as Daluyong Studios (“Plan 75”), Origin8 (“Norte, the End of History”), Ten17p (“A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery”), Giraffe Pictures (“Wet Season”), Momo Films Co (“Don’t Cry, Butterfly”), and Volos Italia (“Viet and Nam”).

The movie titled ‘Some Nights I Feel Like Walking’ has been under production since 2018, garnering endorsements from numerous international film workshops and events such as SEAFIC, Locarno Open Doors, and Cannes Cinefondation Atelier. Moreover, it has secured funding from the Singapore Film Commission and the Film Development Council of the Philippines.

Anthony Chen from Singapore’s Giraffe Pictures stated: “This project has faced numerous obstacles and delays along the way. Yet, its light remains powerful, emitting a rugged and unpolished vitality that only independent filmmaking can provide. It serves as a reminder that even during the blackest of nights, we should persist in moving forward.

The movie will debut for the first time worldwide in competition at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, taking place from November 8th to 24th. Responsibility for international sales has been assigned to Parallax Films.
