Everyone knows the first two rules of Fight Club: don’t talk about Fight Club. But here’s a third: you can now stream the acclaimed 1999 film on Hulu. After being available only for rental or purchase, the movie is now part of Hulu’s large selection of films.
Starting March 1st, you’ll be able to stream Tyler Durden’s mind along with other popular movies like Dead Poets Society, Juno, and The Revenant.
Featuring Edward Norton and Brad Pitt, Fight Club tells the story of a Gen X office worker who can’t sleep and unexpectedly gets involved in an underground boxing scene. The film also includes a fantastic supporting cast, with notable performances from Helena Bonham Carter, Meat Loaf, and Jared Leto.
While the famous actors in Fight Club helped make it a beloved film, it initially received mixed reactions from viewers. Some critics admired its unique story, but others criticized its violence, believing the graphic scenes were unnecessary and could encourage similar behavior in real life, like people starting their own fight clubs.
Even though Fight Club sparked a lot of controversy, it was a financial success, bringing in $101 million at the box office despite costing around $63-65 million to make.
Edward Norton and Brad Pitt Witnessed Fight Club Get Booed At The Venice Film Festival
Edward Norton wasn’t surprised by the strong, and often negative, reaction to Fight Club. He discovered firsthand that the film divided audiences. In an interview with Sunday Morning last February, Norton recalled attending a screening at the Venice Film Festival with Brad Pitt, where they sat in the back and listened as viewers booed and criticized the movie.
Norton remembered watching the film with Brad at a festival where it premiered to a negative reaction – the audience actually booed. However, despite this initial response, the film’s co-stars had a very different reaction to it.
Norton recalled that as the credits finished, Brad Pitt turned to him in the darkness, tears in his eyes, and said, ‘This is the best movie we’ll ever make.’ Norton agreed, and the two were hugging and crying, even as the audience booed.
You can currently rent or buy Fight Club on streaming services like YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and the Apple TV Store. It will also be available on Hulu starting March 1st.
