FIFA Reveals Next Game, And It's From Blockchain Company

As a long-time soccer enthusiast and video game aficionado, I must say that the news of FIFA Rivals and its partnership with Mythical Games has piqued my interest. With over two decades of playing EA’s FIFA games under my belt, the thought of a new entry into the series is exciting, even if it comes under a different name.

Previously known as EA and FIFA, who had a long history of creating popular soccer games, parted ways in 2022. As a result, the series was renamed to EA Sports FC. Now, FIFA has teamed up with blockchain company Mythical Games to develop a new mobile game called FIFA Rivals, which is expected to release in Summer 2025. Despite not having a trailer out yet, there’s already a teaser for FIFA Rivals hinting at its upcoming launch.

FIFA Rivals offers a chance for gamers to engage in one-on-one battles using an entertaining arcade format. This game is accessible for everyone as it’s free, but Mythos plans to offer additional features through in-game transactions within their blockchain system. These transactions enable fans to upgrade their teams by purchasing, selling, and trading real-life professional soccer players. It’s important to note that the game will feature officially licensed soccer stars from well-known international clubs.

Previously this autumn, FIFA entered into a distinct arrangement with Konami for two unique FIFAe World Cup competitions. This contract is solely related to esports and involves using Konami’s eFootball, which can be played on mobile and console devices, to host global player tournaments.

Back in the day, Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer was my go-to soccer game franchise, giving FIFA a run for its money. Unfortunately, Konami and EA couldn’t reach an agreement to rebrand eFootball or produce a new console game under the FIFA name. Now that EA is out of the picture, it seems like Konami and 2K are the top contenders if FIFA decides to get back into console gaming. But hey, EA isn’t sitting idle. They’ve been raking in similar sales as their older FIFA games with their new EA Sports FC series, so they’re still a force to be reckoned with!
