Federation Studios, TAICCA Ink Strategic Partnership at Series Mania to Bridge European and Asian Content Markets

On Tuesday, during the Series Mania event in Lille, France, Taiwan’s creative content agency supported by the government, TAICCA, entered into a substantial agreement with the European production giant, Federation Studios.

This partnership is designed to create a swift pathway for creative minds, content creators, financiers, and disseminators from both regions. It could pave the way for Taiwanese productions to reach Europe and European content to be showcased in Taiwan, thereby exploring fresh opportunities for collaboration.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to be part of the journey with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency, an organization that was born under the protective wing of the Ministry of Culture in 2019. This agency plays a pivotal role in supporting Taiwan’s diverse content industries, including film, television, publishing, pop music, and animation. By joining forces with other entities, I am proud to contribute to this agency’s global strategy, which aims to elevate Taiwanese content on the international stage.

Federation Studios, established by Pascal Breton and jointly headed by Lionel Uzan and Marco Chimenz, is a pioneering collective of autonomous European studios dedicated to producing top-tier original content for worldwide viewers. This rapidly growing network currently consists of 35 production companies based in cities such as Paris, Los Angeles, Rome, Madrid, London, Berlin, Cologne, and Tel-Aviv. By the year 2025, this organization plans to release a total of 40 television series and 31 films.

The collaboration between these two entities is anticipated to speed up joint film productions between Europe and Asia, simultaneously bolstering the existing industry connections to create a distribution network spanning Europe and Asia (EuroAsia). Furthermore, they plan to work together on educational initiatives concentrating on scriptwriting and movie production.

Homme Tsai, head of TAICCA, highlighted during the signing ceremony that this partnership aims to enhance the flow of resources towards Europe, thereby amplifying the growth prospects for cultural and creative sectors in international markets.

The signing ceremony had Jérémie Kessler, the European and international affairs director of CNC, and Laurence Herszberg, the general director of Séries Mania, present as witnesses.

Breton referred to the agreement as “an exceptional chance for Federation to create movies and shows filmed and co-produced in Taiwan, and strengthen our distribution network for our European content in Asian regions.

In November, TAICCA supported the Taiwan Creative Content Festival, and it was there that Édouard Breton gave a significant speech. During this event, he hinted at an upcoming series from “The Bureau”‘s creator, Eric Rochant, which would film part of its production in Taiwan.

Breton stated: “The exceptional skills of Taiwanese experts in technological advancements, coupled with their ingenuity in audiovisual fields, will be a valuable resource. We aim to integrate and maximize these abilities alongside Federation’s talents and knowledge. With this initial agreement in Asia, Federation is strengthening its swiftly expanding international growth in Europe, and this momentum is increasing in the U.S., Latin America, and Africa.”

Breton expressed: “The remarkable proficiency of Taiwanese professionals in technological innovation, along with their creativity within the audiovisual sectors, will be a significant asset. We strive to merge and optimize these skills with Federation’s talents and understanding. By sealing this first deal in Asia, Federation is enhancing its rapidly advancing global development in Europe, and this progression is intensifying in the U.S., Latin America, and Africa.

Frank Paris, head of the French Bureau in Taipei, likewise showed excitement about the Taiwan-France partnership. He spoke of his eagerness for joint efforts in the budding European-Asian trade network, hinting at potential collaborations.
