For a while now, closed trials of the initial edition of the upcoming Battlefield have been underway, resulting in frequent updates on the game spreading online. The most recent tidbits suggest that a feature familiar from BF4 is making a comeback.
These specialized classes are similar to Field Upgrades found in Battlefield 4. You can unlock them by gaining points, offering beneficial perks to the whole team. However, the team’s advancement is erased upon their demise.
As a devotee, I’m thrilled about this system that grants me various tiers of upgrades based on my chosen specialization. Each tier offers four stages, packed with diverse perks such as faster ammo regeneration, enhanced weapon stability, vehicle damage boost, or strategic tactical aid options.
How it works can be seen in the example of the Fire Support class.
- Level 1. – ensures faster: ammunition replenishment, getting up from a lying position, and aiming and moving while aiming.
- Level 2. – increased range in which team members can receive ammunition from you.
- Level 3. – improves the effects of weapon mounting.
- Level 4. – provides Active Resupply. When you press L1 + R1, a box will be dropped that immediately replenishes the team members’ supplies.
At the fourth level, we carry over all the benefits accrued from the first three levels.

It’s important to note that the current version of the game being tested is still quite preliminary. This experimental phase allows developers to explore various possibilities and gauge which potential features might resonate with players. Consequently, it remains uncertain whether character class specializations will feature in the final release of the upcoming Battlefield.
As a passionate Battlefield 4 enthusiast, I’ve got to say that the Field Upgrades were a contentious topic among players. On one hand, those who appreciated this feature loved how it encouraged teamwork and camaraderie among soldiers. On the other hand, some critics felt that certain upgrades were overused and lacked balance within the game.
Despite its flaws, many agreed that Field Upgrades offered a more engaging experience than the unit perks in Battlefield 3. If the new Battlefield manages to strike a good balance with this system, it could introduce an exciting variation to the gameplay, making each battle even more thrilling.
The upcoming “Battlefield” game doesn’t yet have a specific launch date, but it’s expected to be released prior to April 1, 2026, according to EA’s predictions.
