Firebreak, the new cooperative shooter by Remedy Entertainment (known for Control and Alan Wake), is set for release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as of now. As for a potential Nintendo Switch 2 version, it’s uncertain at this point, but the game director, Mike Kayatta, hasn’t completely dismissed the possibility.
As a dedicated fan, I couldn’t help but share some insights from a recent conversation I had with Kayatta. In our chat, he mentioned that they are currently immersed in crafting the game for its launch. At present, the idea of Switch 2 hasn’t crossed their mind, but as we all know, things can take unexpected turns in the gaming world.
This question arises following Remedy’s announcement that they aim to optimize FBC (presumably “Frostbite Chronicles”) for smooth performance on less powerful computers, and also secure Steam Deck Verification. Despite the unannounced specs of the Switch 2, there is anticipation that it will follow Nintendo’s trend of having less powerful hardware compared to PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as high-end PCs.

According to a recent sneak peek by TopMob, they described FBC as having a feel closer to Left 4 Dead compared to live-service. This action game is just one of several upcoming projects from Remedy Entertainment, which includes Control 2, and remakes for Max Payne 1 and 2.
This upcoming game titled FBC will debut this summer, offering availability on subscription services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, as well as for direct purchase. Classified as a moderately-priced title, it’s planned to provide free downloadable content after launch, in addition to cosmetic items that can be bought separately. FBC is considered canon to the game Control, with potential appearances of characters from Control in FBC, according to Kayatta in an interview with Kotaku.
Regarding the upcoming Switch 2, its launch is scheduled towards the end of this year, with a significant unveiling slated for April 2nd. The existing Switch has enjoyed tremendous success, leading many to anticipate robust support from third-party developers. However, at this point, it’s premature to speculate whether Future Battle Championship (FBC) will be among the games launching on the Switch 2.
