Father of Tekken doesn’t mess around with fans. Harada criticizes „pointless” and „disrespectful” complaints about new Anna Williams design

Katsuhiro Harada, the creator of Tekken, has addressed the concerns raised by some Anna Williams fans upon her confirmation to appear in the second season of the eighth edition of the series.

Players are often deeply moved by Tekken 8, but not always in a good way. The response was similar after the recent announcements showcasing significant improvements to core mechanics and rankings, over 1,500 changes, and the unveiling of the first character for the second season.

This recent update has caught the eye of the gamers, and while many are delighted by her comeback (and admittedly, there’s no grumbling from them), it appears that some long-time fans of the game series might be expressing reservations about Anna Williams’ fresh appearance.

It’s not entirely obvious what the problem is with these players, but some speculate that they might be unhappy about an abundance of clothing (and hairstyles, though this criticism seems unwarranted since the Tekken 7 hairstyle remains an option). Additionally, there are claims about modifications made for “inclusivity,” yet no concrete examples have been provided.

“Non-constructive, aimless” and “dismissive” opinion

One unhappy player mentioned Harada in his post, expressing displeasure about the changes to Anna’s appearance. He went so far as to speculate that she might have been swapped with a new character as a sort of retaliation against fans who had long supported this character.

It seems unclear what the user of X intended when they made this post. However, it appears that they either didn’t know Harada or intentionally caused a controversy for a brief moment of attention. Unlike most developers, the creator of Tekken is known for his straightforwardness, and he doesn’t shy away from responding to fans’ criticisms directly. In this case, he responded in much the same way.

Harada pointed out that while most fans are enthusiastically accepting of Anna in T8, there will inevitably be individuals like this dissatisfied internet user. However, he was criticized for pretending to be an Anna fan when voicing his opinion. Additionally, the manner in which he expressed it was deemed unnecessary, empty, and, most importantly, disregardful towards other Anna fans.

The creator didn’t shy away from mentioning the challenges that come with making adjustments for players. In his words, supporters express dissatisfaction over aspects like the character’s personality, her reappearance, and her updated appearance. However, they would also voice discontent if no changes were made (because “it’s repeating!”). He further noted that fans can still access the original versions of characters from earlier releases (“they haven’t lost access to them”).

Harada countered the claim regarding the older sections of Tekken not being ported to new platforms with equal frankness, if not a touch more directness.

Harady’s actions are commonly seen these days, and far from making players disfavor him, they often find his developer escapades entertaining. It’s rare for them to align with the critics of the revamped character, “new” Anna.

Players can expect Anna Williams to join the game on the 3rd of April, while those who have early access will get a sneak peek starting from March 31st.
