Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time overhauled mid-2024 after Keiji Inafune leaves Level-5

Back in 2024, Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time, created by Level-5, underwent significant updates following the departure of Keiji Inafune from the company. These alterations were detailed in a recent blog post from Level-5, which discussed modifications to the project’s scope and even hinted at adjustments for Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road. As a dedicated fan, I’m eagerly anticipating these changes!

The CEO Akihiro Hino’s recent blog post about the Five-Star Workshop Devlog from Level-5 details the hurdles encountered by the company during the previous year, the contributions made after Keiji Inafune left, and also mentions that the game is currently in its final phase of development, with fine-tuning of balance being conducted. Fantasy Life i: A Bold Evolution!

I can hardly contain my excitement as Fantasy Life is now nearing its final stages of development! Every bit of data has been crafted, and we’re currently fine-tuning the balance for an even more exhilarating experience than what was showcased at Tokyo Game Show 2024. Once it’s released, I can hardly wait to immerse myself in online play and share this magical world with everyone!

I have no doubt that upon trying the full version, you’ll exclaim: “Wow, this is even more fun than I imagined!” or perhaps, “This is seriously mind-blowing!” or maybe even, “Look at all these incredible things to discover!”

Regarding its content volume, Fantasy Life has never been bigger or better in every dimension. I apologize for any delays, but the extra time has allowed us to implement full multi-platform support, Cross-Save (to transfer your progress across consoles), and Cross-Play (enabling players on different platforms to join forces online). We’ve also upgraded the user interface significantly, ensuring a smoother and more refined experience for all. Now, we’re ready to bring this game to life in its absolute best form. Keep those anticipations high!

Behind this Project…

In mid-2024, Fantasy Life encountered an unforeseen hurdle. During this period, our lead producer, Keiji Inafune, departed from the company, necessitating a reassessment and reorganization of the project.

Simultaneously, internal playtesters provided unfavorable feedback on the game, suggesting significant alterations were needed. As a result, I assumed the role of producer and relocated the primary development team from Osaka to our main headquarters.

Although the Osaka team was committed from the outset, the project eventually became a collaborative effort involving developers from Fukuoka, Tokyo, and various other regions. This enabled us to enhance our overall development capacity significantly.

This restructuring allowed for an increase in the team size and establishment of an environment where we could concentrate on refining the game’s quality until the very last moment.

Starting from then, we embarked on a comprehensive transformation of the game: incorporating open-world adventuring and parkour movements, revamping the structure for level advancement, enhancing fundamental features, and fine-tuning the storyline to make it even more emotionally resonant.

1. Due to the robust base mechanics, the new features not only complemented the game but elevated its existing greatness, significantly boosting player enjoyment. Our internal testers also applauded these enhancements, marking a significant step forward: The long-developed Fantasy Life is nearly complete!

2. Witnessing Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka (and Hokkaido as well!) collaborate to elevate the game’s quality was an inspiring testament to the delight in crafting a large-scale production. The moment when we can share the ultimate Fantasy Life experience with you is nearly upon us! Prepare yourselves!
