Fantastic Four writer says Galactus was absent from 2015 movie due to “internal pushback”

The author of the 2015 Fantastic Four film has shared his reasons for not including Galactus in the storyline, despite planning to portray him as the main antagonist.

Over time, the Fantastic Four have experienced both successes and setbacks in their cinematic appearances. One early attempt was a low-cost version produced by Roger Corman in 1993; however, this rendition has never been publicly released, leading many to believe it was primarily made to secure rights rather than for public consumption.

In the mid-2000s, a couple of films directed by Tim Story were released, showcasing iconic Marvel characters such as Doctor Doom, Silver Surfer, and a more mystical representation of Galactus, rather than the usual planet-devouring giant. Coming up next month is Fantastic Four: First Steps.

In 2015, Josh Trank’s grim interpretation of the source material met with disapproval from both critics and viewers, effectively ending his take on the franchise permanently. In a recent discussion regarding this particular adaptation, Jeremy Slater, one of its writers, shared some insights about how close we came to witnessing Galactus in it.

Galactus absent from 2015 Fantastic Four due to “internal pushback”

During an interview with ComicBook.com about the forthcoming F4 film, Jeremy Slater expressed his excitement over the trailers, commenting: “I’m captivated by the bold creative approach they’re taking. They’re weaving a multiverse tale, introducing unique worlds and a fresh crop of heroes.

It seems they’re planning to intertwine their universe with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which I find a clever approach. I believe they’re nailing the character of Galactus.

Later, regarding Galactus almost starring in his own Fantastic Four film – a production of 20th Century Fox – Slater explains: “Initially, I aimed to have him as our main antagonist. However, there was some resistance. First, he was our main antagonist. Then, he was only going to make a brief appearance. Eventually, he was restricted to the post-credits scene.

Originally expressing my enthusiasm on Ain’t It Cool News about the appearance of Galactus from Rise of the Silver Surfer, which I may have criticized as a cloud back then, I am thrilled to revive the traditional Galactus design inspired by Jack Kirby. From what I’ve seen so far, they seem to have achieved it successfully, and I can hardly wait to witness him in reality.
