As a seasoned cinema enthusiast with decades of film-watching under my belt, I must say that the transformation of Ebon Moss-Bachrach into The Thing for Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is nothing short of intriguing. His dedication to his craft, evident in his clean-shaven look for maximum data facial capture, is a testament to his commitment to delivering the best possible performance.
At the 2024 Emmy Awards, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, sporting a clean-shaven look, conversed with Marc Malkin from EbMaster about the necessary styling to metamorphose into The Thing for Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Bachrach mentioned that he’s been busy with plenty of motion capture work on ‘Fantastic Four’. To ensure high-quality facial data capture, he has to keep a clean-shaven look.
Bachrach mentioned that during the approximately six-week manufacturing process, all he has glimpsed are rough sketches of him portraying Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. However, he expressed his excitement about viewing the finished product shortly.
With countless talented animators contributing to it, I’d estimate over two hundred individuals involved in the project so far, according to Bachrach. We’ve been filming for around six weeks now, and as of yet, I haven’t had a sneak peek. I can hardly wait to catch a glimpse of the end result.
When queried about the evolution of actors Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Pedro Pascal into their respective “Fantastic Four” personas, Bachrach found their metamorphosis into superheroes to be stunningly graceful.
Bachrach commented, ‘With Joseph Quinn, Vanessa Kirby, and Pedro Pascal, we’ve got quite an impressive cast! They’re not only easy on the eyes but also have kind souls. It’s been such a joy collaborating with them, and I already miss them.’
The filming of “Fantastic Four” is happening right now in London. On leaving for the Emmys, Bachrach found “a lovely bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne” in his hotel room, a gesture from his “Fantastic Four team.
Bachrach expressed that it was incredibly kind. They received a thoughtful card which brought tears to their eyes slightly, he said. ‘I adore them,’ he added, ‘We’ve been putting in a lot of effort together and our bond is so strong that even a brief separation makes me feel a bit anxious.’
