Fantastic Four box office could be bigger than Superman after first projections

In the summer of 2025, following Superman’s movie, Fantastic Four is anticipated to be one of the most significant films. Preliminary box office estimates suggest that its opening might actually surpass expectations.

In simple terms, James Gunn’s version of the DC Universe is doing exceptionally well with Superman. It has already earned more than $220 million globally, which marks the largest solo Superman film debut and the first time a DC movie opened with over $100 million in the U.S. since 2017’s Wonder Woman.

Despite the letdown from the 2015 reboot, Fantastic Four stands as a formidable competitor in the theatrical arena. The misstep in the past shouldn’t overshadow their immense popularity, as fans have long awaited their entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Furthermore, the film boasts an impressive ensemble of four major stars, and it serves to pave the way for Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for next year.

In other words, if it’s great, Fantastic Four has the potential to be a box office monster.

How much will Fantastic Four make?

As an avid comics enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that according to predictions, the Fantastic Four is set to debut with a staggering $125-$155 million in the US box office! The Box Office Theory even suggests that it could potentially earn as much as $277-$395 million by the end of its run. Can’t wait to see this iconic team on the big screen!

The article states that “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is maintaining a consistent position in the market and could potentially gain traction due to being the upcoming big-budget release after Superman. This suggests that ticket sales will likely increase naturally over the following fortnight.

On Thursday, July 24’s domestic screenings are projected to kick off with an opening of around $25 million. If positive reviews and audience buzz continue to grow, this figure could increase. The embargo on reviews lifts on July 22 in the morning.

Since Superman started off earning $122 million in the U.S., it means that even the minimum projected earnings for Fantastic Four are greater than that amount.

Why Fantastic Four could beat Superman

In simpler terms, the new Superman movie has a challenging beginning compared to Fantastic Four. It’s the kick-off for a revamp because the previous series (DCEU) was a significant disappointment and left a negative impression on the audience. Additionally, Superman isn’t as popular at the box office as other heroes.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel that there’s a great deal riding on Superman. While box office success is undeniably significant, one might make a compelling case that the real value lies in the audience’s appreciation for the storyline and their eagerness to see what unfolds next.

Although it has the potential to earn a lot, considering that Fantastic Four will soon occupy most of the cinematic spots in just two weeks, reaching the $700 million target might prove challenging.

The benefit of the Fantastic Four being part of the MCU is also a disadvantage, as it’s led to a series of underperforming films. For instance, Thunderbolts, Captain America: Brave New World, and The Marvels have all fallen short at the box office with earnings of $382M, $415M, and $206M respectively, apart from a few notable exceptions such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, Deadpool, and Wolverine.

The upcoming release of Fantastic Four is generating quite a buzz, so much so that ticket sales have led to crashes on platforms like Fandango. This suggests that the film may turn out to be a highly successful addition to Marvel’s roster.
