Fans pay respects after beloved VTuber Illy dies of cystic fibrosis

People who follow the popular virtual streamer ‘Illy’ are mourning after the news of their passing was shared online by a friend and fellow streamer, ‘Drumsy’.

Illy was a popular VTuber from Scotland who openly shared her experiences living with cystic fibrosis. This genetic condition causes a buildup of thick mucus in the lungs and digestive system, leading to breathing difficulties, frequent infections, and problems with nutrient absorption.

I was so touched when Illy announced her fundraiser back in August 2025! She’s been making a ‘bucket list’ of all the things she wants to experience, and it’s amazing. It includes things like finally seeing a Vocaloid concert, hitting up some conventions and theme parks, and most importantly, throwing a huge party for all her friends and family. I’m really hoping she gets to do everything on it!

I’m a little hesitant to share this, but here’s my bucket list along with some more personal goals I’ve written down. VTuber Illy dies after cystic fibrosis struggle at 23 years old

Content creator Drumsy announced on January 1, 2026, that Illy had passed away at the age of 23 due to complications from her cystic fibrosis. She had experienced a sudden health decline during the Christmas week of 2025.

In a YouTube video, Drumsy explained that his friend was taken to the hospital and sadly passed away. He shared that he received a call from her mother, who told him doctors had exhausted all treatment options. They kept her comfortable and pain-free, and she died peacefully while sleeping.

It’s with a heavy heart that I share the news of Illy’s passing last week. She was a wonderfully warm and kind person who brightened my life, even during her illness. Thank you for all the love you showed her over the years – it meant the world to her and brought her so much happiness. Life won’t be the same without her.

Drumsy announced that all money earned from his ‘Illy Racing’ shirt will be donated to the Butterfly Trust. This charity helps people living with cystic fibrosis by providing support and raising awareness about the illness.

Before she passed away, Illy hoped to organize a fundraiser for the Butterfly Trust, as it had covered the costs of her medical care. Drumsy shared this was something she’d included on her list of things to do before she died.

Drumsy is also offering a framed poster of Illy’s VTuber character for sale. All money earned from the poster will go to Illy’s mother, who lovingly cared for her throughout her life.

People were deeply saddened by the news and sent their condolences to Illy’s loved ones, fondly remembering highlights from her streams and videos.

One commenter on YouTube expressed sadness, writing, “This feels like it happened too soon.” They mourned the loss of ‘Drumsy,’ calling her a special person and hoping she’s now at peace.
