Fans gobsmacked as Alabama’s Ryan Williams trails DJ Uiagalelei in CFB 25 ratings

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that I find myself utterly perplexed by the latest ratings update in EA Sports College Football 25. The ranking of Alabama’s Ryan Williams, a prodigy who has been lighting up the college football scene, coming in below Florida State’s DJ Uiagalelei is a head-scratcher to say the least.

The latest version of EA Sports’ College Football, number 25, has made it more convenient for football enthusiasts to engage with college football. On Wednesday, the game shared significant announcements. Prior to Week 6, CFB 25 revealed their initial player ratings adjustment for the season, moving certain players up or down depending on their performance during the first part of the year.

Among the standout observations made by fans in the latest update, it became clear that Alabama’s wide receiver Ryan Williams, whose overall rating rose to 82, is still lower than Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who saw a decrease in his overall rating to 84. According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports.

As a gamer, I was left speechless by this turn of events: The 17-year-old Williams has been a breakout sensation for the Crimson Tide, dominating with his outstanding performance and game-clinching touchdown against Georgia. In stark contrast, Uiagalelei’s future with Tallahassee seems uncertain following a tough 1-4 start to the season.

“I get being conservative with upgrades/downgrades early in the year,” one fan commented on X, formerly Twitter. “BUT AINT NO WAY RYAN WILLIAMS IS AN 82. I’m not sure there are 5 better WRs at any age in CFB right now.” Another added, “IN WHAT REALM IS DJ UIAGALELEI A HIGHER RANKED PLAYER THAN RYAN WILLIAMS”.

In the recent update of the College Football (CFB) Top 25 rankings, Colorado standout Travis Hunter made a significant move, climbing two positions and now shares the top spot with Michigan’s Will Johnson, both boasting an overall rating of 97.

In a notable shift, South Carolina’s rising star edge rusher, Dylan Stewart, climbed an impressive nine spots, now standing at an overall rating of 87. This meteoric rise came after he ignited the season with a blazing start and demonstrated glimpses of his potential to disrupt games significantly, even early in his career. Meanwhile, his teammate Kyle Kennard also saw his overall rating increase to 87.

In the first four games of the season, Boise State’s running back Ashton Jeanty came close to sharing the top spot with Hunter and Johnson, but he ended up at a 96 overall rating instead. His exceptional play has made him a serious Heisman Trophy candidate. So far this year, Jeanty is averaging over 200 rushing yards per game, and his carries are yielding more than 10 yards each, an impressive feat that has resulted in 13 touchdowns for him.

Meanwhile, two other notable quarterbacks apart from Uiagalelei have experienced a drop in their ratings. Kansas’ Jalon Daniels, for instance, has seen his overall rating decline to 88, having started the season with a 90 overall rating. This season, Daniels has had a tough time with only five touchdown passes and eight interceptions, contributing to the Jayhawks’ 1-4 start.

SMU’s quarterback Preston Stone’s rating has dropped from 87 to 84, following his replacement by Kevin Jennings who now stands at an 84 as well. The Mustangs have been playing well with a record of 4-1, but Stone has primarily watched the games from the sidelines.
