Fandango’s ‘The Story of Frank and Nina’ Debuts Clip Ahead of Venice Premiere (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie buff with a soft spot for coming-of-age dramas and a deep affection for Milan, I must say that “The Story of Frank and Nina” piques my interest. The premise of a silent narrator and three protagonists seeking their place in the world while fighting against reality resonates deeply with my own experiences.

Paola Randi’s coming-of-age film titled “The Tale of Frank and Nina” made its initial appearance at the Horizons Extra section of the Venice Film Festival. A sneak peek, shown below, has been unveiled for the first time. The global distribution rights are being managed by Fandango Sales.

As a dedicated cinephile, let me rephrase this intriguing synopsis in my own words: “In this unique tale, it falls upon Gollum to pen ‘The Story of Frank and Nina.’ However, he can’t speak; instead, he communicates by writing his story on the city walls. In a sense, he serves as the custodian of these silent words, amplifying them across buildings as if the urban landscape were a colossal megaphone.”

As a movie buff, I’ve been gone for a couple years now, but life has forced me into selling assignments outside school as a means to survive. I’m counting down the days until my 18th birthday when I can hop on a train and start anew. My version of reality is so convincing that it seems real to everyone else too.

“Before Nina enters his life, she leads a simple yet driven existence. Unfortunately, she succumbed to adult advice and finds herself in a predicament. The life she yearns for is now only captured through her camera lenses. At just 16, she’s both a mother and a wife. She has realized that to gain freedom, she must pursue education. To aid her in obtaining her middle school license, she hires Frank. However, learning itself can be risky given her circumstances. As they delve deeper into their studies, they grow closer, forming an unexpected bond – almost like family, until the harsh realities of life intrude once more. As Frank puts it, ‘Reality is a matter of perspective’ – perhaps, they might have the power to rewrite their own story.”

In the statement, the director expresses that “‘The Story of Frank and Nina'” is a coming-of-age tale crafted with the aim of narrating the story of his beloved city – Milan. He considers Milan as a city filled with dreamers.

“The main characters are nearing adulthood, seeking their niche in life, yearning for independence, validation of their individuality, a lifestyle, and a form of love that defies structure. They’re on a quest to discover their unique reality and relationships.”

The primary figures in this tale are the children, their aspirations, and the city itself. A tacit narrator, a forward-thinking realist, and an old-time dreamer reside within a Milan shrouded by mist, elusive like a longing, enchanting yet intricate, veiled and captivating, seeking tomorrow. ‘The Story of Frank and Nina’ is the account of three youngsters battling against everyday life.

The principal actors include Gabriele Monti, Ludovica Nasti, Samuele Teneggi, Marco Bonadei, Bruno Bozzetto, Joseph David Seke, Alessandra Casella, and Anna Ferzetti.

The movie is made by Domenico Procacci and Laura Paolucci. Additionally, it’s a joint effort with Peter Luisi and David Luisi. Furthermore, it’s a collaborative production involving Fandango, Rai Cinema, Spotlight Media Productions, and RSI Radiotelevisione Svizzera.
