Fan Theories Link Pokemon Pokopia To Older Games In The Franchise

When Pokémon Pokopia was first announced in September 2025, it seemed like a relaxing, creative game similar to Animal Crossing or Minecraft. However, a recent, longer trailer has led fans to notice some surprising and potentially unsettling connections to earlier Pokémon games.

The new trailer for Pokopia starts with a strikingly damaged Pokemon Center and a classic Pokedex, immediately sparking fan theories. Many believe the game takes place on Cinnabar Island from the original Pokemon games (Red, Blue, and Yellow). In later games, it was revealed that Cinnabar Island was largely destroyed by a volcanic eruption, leaving only a few buildings standing – including a Pokemon Center, which closely resembles the one shown in the trailer.

I was so intrigued by Professor Tangrowth in the trailer! He said he hasn’t seen any people for ages, but the island definitely shows signs of past human life – there are old roads and buildings everywhere. And those weird Pokémon variations they showed off, like that super-pale Pikachu called Peakychu? I have a feeling they were made at the Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar Island. It’s interesting because that’s where you used to find Ditto in the original games, so maybe it all connects!

In Pokopia, you play as a Ditto that can change into a human and use the abilities of other Pokémon. You’ll use these powers to rebuild the environment, creating a peaceful haven away from human conflict. The game doesn’t seem to have traditional battles or a main storyline. Given that it takes place on a Cinnabar Island recovering from a volcanic eruption, it’s a nice idea that the land is restored by Pokémon who are free from being forced to fight.

The new Pokémon game, Pokopia, is scheduled to launch on the Switch 2 on March 5, 2026. Before then, Pokémon fans can enjoy Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which features a fresh battle system. While innovative, this new system might require some adjustments before it’s ready for professional esports competition.
