Family card business “heartbroken” after $100K of rare Pokemon cards stolen

A Pokémon card-focused family enterprise is deeply saddened as thieves made off with merchandise valued at approximately $100,000 from them.

The market for Pokémon cards has consistently thrived, yet it’s seen a significant surge in recent times, becoming increasingly sought-after. Enthusiastic collectors are rummaging through old family homes, hoping to find their original collections or valuable cards that could fetch substantial sums of money.

In addition, the significant financial stakes have also attracted a range of unscrupulous actions. Counterfeit items are circulating, resellers are purchasing entire lots to resell at premium prices, leaving genuine collectors paying more than the market value, and extremely valuable cards have been stolen.

Businesses suffer temporary setbacks when card thieves are imprisoned, as they work to regain their footing.

Texas Pokémon collectors have $100k stolen in cards & cash

On June 2nd, the family-owned business, Evolutions Trading, suffered a burglary at the hands of thieves, who specifically sought out valuable credit cards and cash.

As a passionate gamer, I’d share that in a recent burglary, over a hundred grand worth of my rare, vintage Pokémon cards were swiped. Among the stolen treasures were a Skyridge Umbreon, a Gold Star Charizard, and a FireRed LeafGreen Charizard EX – all graded perfect 10s. These beauties have hefty price tags: $10,000 for the Umbreon, a whopping $18,000 for the Gold Star Charizard, and $5,000 for the FireRed LeafGreen Charizard EX. Quite the hit to my collection!

In a deeply sorrowful state, our cherished, familial enterprise shared its feelings on Facebook. Over time, we’ve lovingly cultivated a haven for hobbyists, game enthusiasts, and the community at large. To learn that it has been breached is beyond words, causing us immense pain.

Pokemon enthusiasts observed that the culprits wore masks, making it difficult for the surveillance cameras to get a clear view of them. This information has since been shared with law enforcement to handle.

I was part of an incredible community event where we all gathered for a ‘Trade Night’. People generously donated funds to help us clear the shattered glass, and as expected, everyone indulged in buying cards. It felt amazing to be a part of such unity and generosity!

“We will come back from this. Stronger, more determined, and more grateful than ever,” they said.
