Falcon and GDH Reunite for Indonesian ‘Shutter’ Horror Remake with Vino G. Bastian

Under the banner of Falcon Pictures, they’re planning to re-create the classic Thai horror movie “Shutter.” This will be their second joint project with the Thai film powerhouse GDH, following their successful remake of the Indonesian tale “Pee Mak,” which was titled “Kang Mak” in its new version.

The deal was revealed at the Cannes Film Market.

For the upcoming project, the team has gathered an impressive lineup of leading actors such as Vino G. Bastian, Anya Geraldine, and Niken Anjani. The production company has also unveiled initial images that give a sneak peek into the eerie setting designed by director Herwin Novianto, who is known for “Kang Mak,” “Miracle in Cell No 7,” and “Fireworks.” With this remake, he aims to preserve the essence of Banjong Pisanthanakun’s 2004 Thai horror classic while infusing it with a uniquely Indonesian perspective.

Frederica, producer at Falcon Pictures, expressed her eagerness to reveal the initial visuals from ‘Shutter.’ She believes that this production will offer a chilling, emotionally impactful, and visually captivating horror encounter. This reimagining not only honors Banjong Pisanthanakun’s exceptional craftsmanship, but also serves as a means to rejuvenate Southeast Asian tales for modern viewers, infusing them with contemporary relevance.

In this psychological mystery, we follow the story of Darwin, a photographer who finds an enigmatic woman appearing in every one of his photos. As this ethereal figure starts to materialize in the real world, Darwin’s partner Pia embarks on a quest to uncover her true identity. Along the way, she learns about a past university student named Lilies and their possible connection to the spectral woman. When strange events begin claiming Darwin’s friends’ lives, Pia becomes convinced that these haunting occurrences are somehow linked to Darwin’s past transgressions.

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement for “Shutter,” which is currently undergoing post-production. This upcoming masterpiece is set to grace the silver screen towards the end of 2025, further expanding Falcon’s impressive repertoire that already includes blockbusters like “Warkop DKI Reborn,” “Dilan 1990,” “Miracle in Cell No 7,” and “Comic 8.

Established in 2010, Falcon Pictures has risen to become one of the foremost film studios in Indonesia. It has recently broadened its horizons into streaming through its platform KlikFilm, offering a mix of original content, selections from international film festivals, and local movie releases.
