Fable Delayed By Xbox Game Studios To Unannounced Date In 2026

A chat with a notable Xbox personality gave fresh information about the upcoming action RPG Fable, created by Playground Games. This game was initially announced during the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase, and an in-game teaser was presented at that same event in 2023. Another trailer for the game came out the following year.

Originally slated for a 2025 launch, the action RPG Fable has been pushed back due to recent updates from Craig Duncan, head of Xbox Game Studios. During his interview on this week’s Official Xbox Podcast, he confirmed that the game will now be released in the year 2026 instead.

In the most recent episode of The Official Xbox Podcast, released on February 25th, 2025, Craig Duncan, head of Xbox Game Studios, was the guest. During this interview, when discussing Fable, a game currently being developed by the creators of Forza Horizon, Duncan expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s development and where the team at Playground is headed, saying, “I’m really excited, I’m really excited about the progress, I’m really excited about where Playground is going.

In a recent interview for the Official Xbox Podcast, Duncan clarified that while we initially planned to release Fable in 2025, we have decided to grant it more development time and the game will now be released in 2026 instead. Although this might not be the news fans were hoping for, I want to reassure everyone that the extra wait will definitely be worth it as Fable promises to be an exceptional experience.

Due to Fable’s delay announcement providing additional time for Playground Games to refine the game and fix bothersome issues, fresh Fable gameplay footage was shared in the YouTube VOD of a podcast episode. Duncan emphasized that given Playground Games’ impressive background and success with the Forza Horizon series, they will be bringing their expertise to the Fable franchise.

As he detailed the contributions Playground Games made during the game’s creation, from the graphics to their unique British wit, their approach to a Fable game will be “the most captivating portrayal of Albion” players have experienced. “I am genuinely thrilled about the plans and eager for what’s to come, and I want the community to grasp that we do this for the benefit of the games and the teams, which in turn leads to the finest games, or the best game for the community,” Duncan emphasized.
