While anticipation builds for updates on Black Panther 3, the Eyes of Wakanda animated series is being developed for its August premiere, and director Todd Harris has shared significant information about this upcoming TV show – featuring a cameo by Iron Fist.
In response to a challenging year in 2023, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is adopting a fresh strategy for their content production, prioritizing quality over volume. This shift may involve fewer projects, but there are still many exciting ventures ahead.
Among the highly awaited superhero films in the contemporary scene, The Fantastic Four: First Steps stands out as one of them. Subsequent blockbusters with significant anticipation include Spider-Man 4, Avengers: Endgame (possibly Doomsday), and Avengers: Secret Wars.
On Disney+, the upcoming live-action series is Ironheart, while in August, you can watch Eyes of Wakanda, an animated television program that takes place within the Marvel universe centered on Black Panther.
Eyes of Wakanda to include “not the Iron Fist you expect”
As a thrilled gamer and MCU enthusiast, I was privileged to witness the debut of the initial episode from our upcoming show at the Annecy Animation Festival on Monday (June 9). During the post-screening discussion, Harris enlightened us that “The Eyes of Wakanda” is an “adjacent anthology” series, meaning each standalone episode clocks in at a compact yet engaging 30 minutes.
The most exciting piece of information is that we’ll encounter well-known Marvel figures, including a previous member of the Defenders team. As he mentioned through Variety, “There will be an Iron Fist present here, but it won’t be the one you’re accustomed to.
In the initial installment titled ‘Into the Lion’s Den’, we journey back through time to 1260 BC, where we follow Noni, a fallen member of the Dora Milaje, as she embarks on a quest to find a man known as “Lion”, portrayed by Cress Williams.
As reported by the source, Lion serves as the head of a band of pirates, and he’s been known to seize advanced tech from Wakanda with the goal of establishing his very own dominion.
In summary, there are a total of four episodes, each featuring tales that leap across different eras. The main focus will be on Wakandan spies who are tasked with recovering misappropriated artifacts. According to Harris, this series can primarily be classified as a spy thriller.
The narrative weaves through various time frames, yet there are consistent elements running all the way through, along with recognizable Marvel heroes making appearances.
In regards to Iron Fist – a character who many fans have deemed irrelevant after the controversial Netflix series – there’s an opportunity for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reinvent this superhero in a new, intriguing way. Harris’s remark, “not the Iron Fist you’re accustomed to,” suggests a significant departure from the character of Danny Rand.
In the comic books, the character holds a role that’s been carried forward through centuries. The unique, multi-temporal structure of “Eyes of Wakanda” offers an ideal setting for delving into one of these historical manifestations of the character.
