In the year 2025, one of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming projects is set to debut a fresh character, often compared to James Bond in terms of her qualities. This film, tentatively titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, might be the sole MCU movie for 2025. However, Marvel Studios has plans to launch several Disney+ series as well, such as “Ironheart” and “Eyes of Wakanda“.
In the upcoming animated series titled “Eyes of Wakanda,” premiering on Disney+ on August 6, 2025, a female character resembling James Bond takes center stage. This enigmatic figure will be pivotal to an espionage narrative set amidst the Western Bronze Age.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Todd Harris, the showrunner, creator, and director of the “Eyes of Wakanda” animated series, revealed that one of the characters will resemble a female version of James Bond, whom he referred to as a “Jane Bond.” This suggests that this character will possess similar traits such as skill, intelligence, and more, much like 007.
It’s important to point out that along with this, Harris additionally teased the arrival of a character reminiscent of “a Wakanda-level James Bond.” This means that fans can anticipate two servings of spy action, as both the original James Bond and these new characters will deliver thrilling espionage experiences.
I found the concept of everyone’s interpretation of history fascinating. The narrative begins during the tail end of the Western Bronze Age era, igniting a massive spy-espionage tale that echoes throughout time…. It features characters reminiscent of Wakanda’s version of James Bond, occasionally starring a female protagonist, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the marvelous Wakanda.
Harris purposely kept the character names under wraps and emphasized that much about the series remains shrouded in mystery.
We strive to embody the true essence of Wakanda, by maintaining a high degree of secrecy whenever we can.
Indeed, it’s been verified that the movie titled “Eyes of Wakanda” is expected to focus on the Hatut Zeraze, a covert police or special ops unit within Wakanda. It’s likely that Jane Bond Harris will play a significant role in this group.
Harris hinted at a twist in the main storyline of “Eyes of Wakanda,” suggesting that the Hatut Zeraze must retrieve some pilfered Vibranium. The creative mind behind the project emphasized how Vibranium ended up with Steve Rogers and significantly altered the world’s trajectory, so it is crucial for the Hatut Zeraze to prevent this stolen resource from escalating into a larger predicament.
When an initial event sets free certain entities into the natural environment, there’s a need for discreet action to prevent them from causing further complications. The consequences of a single artifact falling into the possession of a Genetically Enhanced Individual were evident – it significantly altered the global landscape.
The TV series titled “Eyes of Wakanda” consists of only four episodes, which will exclusively stream on Disney+. Despite its public debut not scheduled until August 6, 2025, a sneak peek of the first episode is planned for June 9, 2025, with an exclusive screening.
It’s noteworthy to mention that “Eyes of Wakanda” will serve as the inaugural Disney+ series in Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
How Eyes of Wakanda’s Jane Bond Will Differ From Other Bond-like MCU Characters
Over time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced several enigmatic characters that have become beloved by fans. Remarkably, multiple female heroes within this franchise appear to embody a character akin to a female version of James Bond, with Natasha Romanoff, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson (for updates on her potential return to the MCU, click here), and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova being the most notable examples (the latter recently made an appearance in Thunderbolts)).
On the other hand, Yelena and Natasha are depicted as Widows, while it’s more probable that Jane Bond takes on the role of a Wakandan warrior within the Hatut Zeraze.
In the comics, the Hatut Zeraze employed Vibranium for their operations, using it to create protective suits woven with Vibranium fibers. These suits granted the user a shield against various threats, including bullets and stabbing weapons. Essentially, these suits offered extraordinary defense for the wearer.
The Hatut Zeraze employed disguising techniques, making themselves undetectable, thus providing their agents with an additional tactical advantage.
One key advantage of Hatut Zeraze characters in the comics lies in their boots. These boots contain Vibranium in their soles, which makes them energy-absorbing. This means that a wearer could fall from great heights without harm, as the energy field generated by the Vibranium cushions the impact. Furthermore, these boots allow the user to run on vertical surfaces such as walls and even across water.
It’s evident that the characters resembling James Bond-type figures in the MCU previously are distinct from those appearing in “Eyes of Wakanda“. This is because these new characters will tap into unique resources and participate in diverse missions, setting them apart.
