ExtraEmily announces break from streaming amid Twitch viewbot allegations

Popular Twitch streamer ExtraEmily announced she’s stepping away from streaming after facing allegations of using programs to artificially increase her viewer count.

A clip from streamer ExtraEmily’s April broadcast went viral after viewers noticed a browser tab labeled “ViewBot.ai.” This led to discussions on Reddit and other social media platforms about whether she might have unintentionally shown evidence of a service used to artificially inflate viewership.

Things got complicated when a moderator from the Reddit community r/LivestreamFail was banned for removing posts discussing claims that streamer ExtraEmily was using a program called Viewbot.ai to inflate her viewer count.

So, the mod team told me that the banned mod – apparently a big fan of Extra Emily – actually deleted a thread discussing the accusations. They claimed the site that boosts viewer counts was just a harmless pop-up from 67speed. But the rest of us tried to see it, and none of us could get that pop-up to show up. It just didn’t happen for anyone else.

Following recent issues, ExtraEmily has announced she’s taking a break from Twitch to prioritize her well-being and mental health.

He announced he’ll be focusing on his mental health during his break and will share updates through his Discord server or private messages. He plans to disconnect from all other social media platforms during this time.

The popular Twitch streamer said she doesn’t plan to stop streaming and hinted that she’ll probably be back soon.

Viewbot controversy rages on

Recently, there’s been a lot of discussion about some popular Twitch and Kick streamers possibly using programs called ‘viewbots’ to make it seem like they have more viewers than they actually do.

Recently, Reed Duchscher, who runs the influencer agency Night Media, suggested that streamers purchase viewbots, arguing they’re at a competitive disadvantage without them.

It’s tough to succeed if you’re playing by the rules when others aren’t. If you’re trying to get noticed and most streamers are using artificial methods to inflate their viewer counts, you might be at a disadvantage. Paying for promotion or even buying bots could help a streamer gain visibility in a crowded field where having a large audience is essential.

Even though platforms ban and try to stop viewbotting, it continues to be a problem because developers keep finding new methods to get around the security measures.

It’s unusual for people using bots to be banned, as proving they’re doing it is difficult. Platforms generally only step in when someone publicly reveals evidence of bot activity, like when a streamer’s use of viewbots went viral.
