Exposed: Study Shows Colbert ‘Late Show’ as a One-Sided Liberal Lovefest That Got the Boot

In a striking critique of media imbalance, a recent study exposes the strong lean towards liberal views on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Remarkably, it has been found that between 2022 and now, the show has had an astounding 176 liberal guests versus only one conservative.

The unbalanced guest roster, combined with declining viewership ratings and a 35-year low in Democratic voter approval, clearly illustrates why CBS ultimately decided to terminate a program that had deteriorated into what many now refer to as little more than a corporate-funded self-help group for progressives.

For years, I’ve held the viewpoint shared by many conservatives that what we’re watching isn’t just entertainment; it’s a form of persuasion or propaganda. And it seems, America has grown tired of tuning in to this kind of content.

As a movie buff and keen observer of media, I can’t help but notice the striking partisanship that even the most dedicated progressives might find blushing about, as depicted in a study conducted by NewsBusters. From 2022 onwards, Stephen Colbert’s talk show has transformed into a veritable revolving door for politicians, journalists, and celebrities who lean decidedly to the left.

We have a group of influential Democrats consisting of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senators Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Cory Booker. Notably, he also welcomed Senator Kamala Harris to his platform during the 2024 election campaign.

If you gather together 29 prominent voices from liberal media outlets like Chris Hayes of MSNBC, John Oliver of HBO, and Ezra Klein of The New York Times, it can lead to a repetitive and one-sided discourse, lacking in diverse perspectives.

Even New York’s Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander got airtime.

In simpler terms, “The lone ‘conservative’ deviation” refers to former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who spoke out against the GOP and Donald Trump in December 2023, which was not typical of genuine conservative beliefs.

2025 saw no abatement in the prejudice, as evidenced by Colbert’s guest lineup during the initial half of the year. In this span, he invited 43 politically liberal figures and none from conservative camps, making him the most biased among all late-night programs.

NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck didn’t mince words.

Colbert’s show functions as a late-night support group for liberals, but it seems that Americans are increasingly unwilling to tolerate divisive, partisan mockery disguised as humor,” he explained.

Houck’s assessment rings true as viewers have fled the Colbert Late Show in droves.

This disclosure follows swiftly after CBS’s declaration that they are ending The Late Show, a decision the network explained as being due to significant financial losses.

Due to an annual budget over $100 million and recurring yearly losses between $40-$50 million, it became difficult for the network to continue supporting Colbert’s show, The Late Show.

The research delves deeper than just Colbert’s show, revealing a systemic inclination towards liberals in late-night TV. Since the year 2022, programs such as Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart have collectively invited 511 liberal or Democratic guests compared to only 14 conservative or Republican guests.

In the start of 2025, “The Daily Show” featured 32 guests with liberal views, with Meyers hosting 16, Kimmel 10, and Fallon 5 following closely. The exception among conservatives was policy expert Oren Cass on “The Daily Show”, discussing tariffs from the Trump era – a noteworthy instance of meaningful conversation.

Cass commended host Jon Stewart for genuinely caring about his topics, but Stewart’s comeback in February 2024 didn’t seem to resolve the issue. In fact, his shows predominantly feature guests with liberal views, with a staggering 99% lean towards them.

Previously appointed Chief Strategist under Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, is urging probes by the Federal Election Commission and the Department of Justice on these networks, suspecting they may have illegally donated funds to Democratic campaigns, potentially breaking election laws.

Predicting potential losses for Colbert might reach $500 million, Bannon characterized this as an “in-kind contribution” and a “persistent pattern of criminal activity apparently aimed at supporting the Democratic Party.

CBS and Paramount declined to comment on the matter.

The scheduled end of Colbert’s show in spring 2026 demonstrates that the market remains functional: biased content falters when audiences exercise their power through their TV remotes.
