On October 8th, the long-awaited documentary by Wendy Sachs and Debra Messing has been released for online viewing – however, there’s a unique method to stream it exclusively.
On October 7th, 2023, I found myself right in the middle of another flare-up in the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. Hamas’s attack on Israel led to a heartbreaking loss of over 1,200 lives, with the death toll still climbing. Regrettably, it seems that Palestinians bear the brunt of this violence, making up the majority of casualties in this devastating conflict. As I write, more than 50,000 souls have been taken by this never-ending cycle of warfare, a grim reminder of the human cost of such conflicts.
The conflict has sparked numerous movies and news programs, with “No Other Land” being particularly noteworthy as it won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature this year. Its creator, Hamdan Ballal, was assaulted by a band of Israeli settlers in March, just weeks after his victory.
During the same month, a documentary delved into examining the increase of anti-Semitic sentiments throughout the United States: specifically on October 8th.
How to watch the October 8 movie
As of April 1, 2025, you can purchase or rent “October 8” on platforms like Amazon Prime and on-demand services.
I was so excited when the documentary finally hit theaters in the U.S. on March 14th, but alas, life got in the way and I missed my chance to catch it on the big screen. If you find yourself in a similar predicament, fear not! You’ll need to hunt it down digitally instead.
But, this isn’t an affordable option: It’s a high-end Video On Demand release, which means it will set you back $19.99 to rent or $24.99 to purchase.
Or:
This isn’t a budget choice: It’s a top-tier VOD launch, so it will cost you $19.99 for rental and $24.99 to own.
What is October 8 about?
As a gamer, I recently came across an article dated October 8th that sheds light on the surge of anti-Semitism across American college campuses, social media platforms, and even our city streets. This escalation in hate speech began the day after the October 7th attack by Hamas on Israel.
By conducting thorough research, the movie sheds light on how Hamas, over many years, built intricate systems within American society and delves into the tidal wave of online anti-Semitism, propaganda, and misinformation originating from Iran, China, and Russia. The intent behind this widespread dissemination is to sow discord among American citizens.
In this movie, you’ll see notable figures like actress Debra Messing, outspoken supporter of Israel Michael Rapaport, representative Ritchie Torres, and various other commentators make an appearance.
As the director, Sachs shared with Fox News her struggles in making the movie on October 8th. She recounted being repeatedly informed by the Hollywood industry that “no one would be willing to work on this film.
As a passionate enthusiast, I found myself in a challenging situation where the major talent representatives declined to take on my project. It wasn’t due to any lack of belief in its quality, but rather, the difficulty in generating profits from this unique piece of cinema.
According to Sachs, Netflix and Hulu turned it down before she secured a small theatrical release.
You can also keep tabs on the month’s new documentaries and all of the movies coming out in 2025.
