As a long-time collector of Pop Culture memorabilia and a proud owner of several NECA figures, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I stumbled upon this article showcasing the latest additions to their lineup – dinosaurs inspired by the iconic G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero series!
Following the triumph of the Mos Eisley Cantina project, HasLabs is once again launching a new campaign for the G.I. Joe series with the Cobra Rattler. This initiative will be formally unveiled during Hasbro’s Comic-Con panel, but GameSpot brings you an exclusive sneak peek of this notorious jet and its elusive pilot, who goes by the code name Wild Weasel.
Starting from July 25, this crowdfunded project will be live during the panel hours until September 9 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time or 8:59 PM Pacific Time. Our initial target is to secure support from 9,000 backers. If we’re successful, shipping is anticipated to commence in fall of next year. The Rattler jet, compatible with Joe’s 6-inch Classified series, will cost around $325 plus shipping charges for the backers. G.I. Joe has a track record of fulfilling its HasLab projects; let’s explore what makes the Rattler worth investing in.
Initially, the Wild Weasel action figure includes a removable helmet, allowing us to view his face for the first time in figurine form. An extra battle-damaged helmet is also included, and there’s a detachable air hose connecting his helmet to his flight suit.
The Cobra Rattler measures approximately three feet long in total, equating to a length of 33.53 inches. When placed on the ground with its wheels touching, it reaches a height of 9.88 inches and boasts a wingspan of 32.04 inches. This model features adjustable wings for VTOL functionality, mimicking the design of the 1984 original. Furthermore, by depressing the release button, the wings can fold vertically, thereby cutting the wingspan in half. When the wings are folded upright, the Cobra Rattler’s height extends to 13.96 inches.
The Rattler is equipped with twelve detachable pylons situated beneath its wings for flexible weapon setup, allowing you to adjust your arsenal through dog-bone connections.
- 2 Sistrum Cluster Bombs with visible bomblets
- 2 70MM Precision-Guided Rocket Launchers
- 2 AEA-56 Quick Thrust Short-Range Missiles
- 2 EO-118 Electro Optical Renegade Missiles
- 2 Thermonuclear Bombs
- 2 Bomb Racks which hold 6 total PL-MI84 Unguided Bombs
Without the explosive sounds, what are guns like in this campaign, which also features a jet’s weapon noises? The campaign will provide some extra blast effect enhancements as well.
- 2 Large Blast Effects with a 6.3MM peg and a side dog bone connection which can attach to the back of the engines or missile accessories or one of the dog bone ports
- 2 Medium Blast Effects with a 6.3MM peg
- 2 Small Blast Effects with a 2.5MM peg which can attach to the “Jawbreaker” Cannon and the Turret Guns
- 2 Small Blue Laser Beams with a 2.5MM peg
As a seasoned backer of crowdfunding campaigns, I’ve learned that hitting certain milestones not only brings the project to life but also unlocks special perks for supporters. With this particular campaign, reaching 9,000 backers is necessary just to secure the delivery of the promised jet and Wild Weasel reward. But what about the incentives?
Fans that missed out on the H. I. S. S. Tank or the Dragonfly might want to nab this if they can.
