Her son, who she has been estranged from, reconnects with her, but their tranquility is disrupted when her past comes knocking. This intriguing series offers a multitude of appealing aspects: it’s created by the acclaimed duo Harry and Jack Williams (known for “The Missing,” “The Tourist”); it boasts sun-kissed landscapes; it’s a female-led action thriller with a top-notch cast; it airs on Prime Video in the U.K./Ireland, and is a co-production between Two Brothers Pictures (Germany’s ZDF, All3Media Intl.) and Australia’s Stan, enhancing its production values.

“Beyond,” (New Regency)

The first European series acquisition by New Regency, in collaboration with Bravado Equity, is being produced by CBS Studios, Syrreal Entertainment based in Berlin, and ARD Degeto. This highly successful recent European TV show, known as “Beyond” or “Oderbruch,” begins with the chilling revelation of 248 murder victims’ bodies and bones found in the desolate marshlands along Germany’s border with Poland. The series then takes a surprising turn by blending elements of a crime procedural with an unexpected fantastical explanation. It has been popular on ARD Mediathek, and won multiple awards at Spain’s largest TV festival, the Cadiz South International Series Festival in October.

“Bookish,” (Beta Film)

Titled “The Mysteries of Gabriel Book,” this series is written and starring Mark Gatiss, best known for his role as Sherlock. The first episode features the term “flensing.” Furthermore, Gabriel is not just a quote machine but also a character with a deep emotional depth, reflecting the quiet, lingering pain of loss experienced during World War II.

This series is set to air on UKTV and U.S. PBS, potentially marking another significant collaboration between producer Eagle Eye and Beta Film – think “Hotel Portofino” or “Patience.

“Cold Water,” (ITV Studios)

In a return to British television after 15 years, “The Walking Dead’s” Andrew Lincoln appears in a new series produced by Sister Pictures, the makers of “Chernobyl” and “Eric.” The script for this show was written by playwright David Ireland, who describes it as a “darkly humorous, twisted thriller.” In the story, Lincoln portrays John, a man frustrated with his stationary life who relocates his family to the serene countryside town of Coldwater. There, he forms a friendship with Tommy, a local resident who appears to be a pillar of the community, unbeknownst to John that Tommy conceals shocking secrets.

“The Genius Game,” (CJ ENM)

Being a charming and socially adept celebrity isn’t always easy, especially when you’re one of 13 contestants chosen for the “Genius Game” based on your social intelligence, charisma, appeal, and intellect. In each episode, guided by an enigmatic figure, competitors face intricate games that test their problem-solving skills, attentiveness, and even loyalty. It’s no surprise that secret partnerships are established, unexpected friendships blossom, and betrayals, unfortunately, happen quite frequently. Matters take an alarming turn as it becomes clear that Jack’s death was not a suicide, but a murder. The Wright family, already divided by feuds, faces further turmoil as the issue of succession becomes increasingly complex. The epic struggle for power that surpasses all other power struggles: “King & Conqueror” features James Norton as Harold of Wessex and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William of Normandy. Originally allies with no intention of claiming the British throne, they were unwillingly drawn into a war over its control due to unforeseen circumstances and intense personal ambition. As per the plot summary, their rivalry culminated in the Battle of Hastings in 1066, which shaped contemporary Britain. This captivating series was created by Michael Robert Johnson, who has previously written for Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes” and is one of the most anticipated shows at the London TV Screenings.

“Maigret,” (Banijay Entertainment)

Under the guidance of Banijay, “Maigret” is spearheading its way to PBS Masterpiece. This is a modern TV adaptation of Georges Simenon’s timeless detective novels, offering a contemporary twist on the character Jules Maigret, the Parisian Chief Inspector. Written by Patrick Harbinson (“Homeland,” “24,” “The Tower”), this new version, produced by Playground, the team behind “Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light,” introduces a new interpretation of the legendary character. An enticing first look image of the series was recently released.

“A Prophet,” (Studiocanal)

In a refreshing update, the acclaimed film “Emilia Pérez” by director Jacques Audiard, which won the Cannes Grand Prix, is being transformed into a series. The original producer Marco Cherqui (“Les Sauvages”) and creator Abdel Raouf Dafri, along with his writing partner Nicolas Peufaillit, are back for this new project. Twelve years have passed since the movie, and the setting has shifted – the story now unfolds in Marseilles, where a Black African character (Mamadou Sidibé) takes on the role of the social outcast lead. While the time gap and location change are evident, key themes from the film will persist. These include life as an ongoing survival challenge, the deep-rooted racism prevalent in contemporary France, the accidental creation of a criminal persona, rather than one shaped by inherent character traits.

“The Rainmaker,” (Lionsgate Television)

In this new adaptation, “Code Black” writer Michael Seitzman is stepping into Grisham’s successful novel “The Rainmaker.” The story follows fresh-from-law-school Rudy Baylor, portrayed by Milo Callaghan, as he squares off against the formidable Leo Drummond, played by John Slattery from “Mad Men,” in a battle that extends beyond the confines of the courtroom. Alongside his mentor and her disheveled legal assistant, Rudy untangles two intertwined conspiracies linked to the enigmatic demise of their client’s son. Adding tension to the plot is his ambitious ex-girlfriend, played by Madison Iseman. The series is scheduled to premiere on Australian streaming platform Stan towards the end of 2025.

“This City Is Ours,” (Sony Pictures Television)

A fresh, gripping crime series set in Liverpool and Spain is brought to life by creator-writer Stephen Butchard (known for “The Good Mothers” and “The Last Kingdom”). Notable talent includes actors Fares Fares (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Cairo Conspiracy”), Evin Ahmad (“Snabba Cash”), and director Jens Jonsson (“8 Months”).
