In a private chat with TopMob during the debut of Slanted at SXSW, Amy Wang, the writer, shared updates about the upcoming film “Crazy Rich Asians 2”. She talked about the movie’s current production status, which happens to be the latest update from someone connected to the romantic comedy sequel.

Wang stated that, as far as she is aware, the event is still planned; however, everyone seems to be moving at a deliberate pace to ensure that the sequel surpasses its predecessor in quality.

After numerous years of work on this movie, there’s been an announcement for a follow-up to the critically praised romance, which was made in August 2018, just following the initial release. Since that time, not much has been shared publicly.

In our recent updates regarding the project, I, as a follower, recall hearing about it from Casey Bloys, the Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Studio, during an interview with Variety in 2024. He shared that the studio was intending to create a series based on this beloved property.

The sequel to “Crazy Rich Asians,” titled simply “Crazy Rich Asians 2,” was poised to build on the blockbuster success of its predecessor, which premiered in cinemas in August 2018 and received almost unanimous praise. Directed by John M. Chu, the initial film introduced us to Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) as she journeyed to Singapore alongside her boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding).
