Timothy Dalton, who portrayed James Bond in “The Living Daylights” (1987) and “Licence to Kill” (1989), shares his thoughts on the significant agreement that led to Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, long-term producers, transferring all creative control of the renowned British secret agent series to Amazon MGM Studios.
I must admit, I was utterly taken aback by the deal,” I shared during an interview with Radio Times. “Barbara, in my opinion, is an extraordinary woman and an exceptional producer, just like her father Cubby Broccoli. We had a great rapport and I admired him greatly. He was a formidable force and a steadfast pillar for the project. Nothing happened without his approval, and it’s unfortunate that he’s no longer with us. All I can say is that he was in control, and that’s not the case anymore.
From this point forward, Wilson, Broccoli, and Amazon MGM will continue to share ownership, but Amazon will hold sole authority over the intellectual property. The specifics regarding the financial aspects of the agreement have yet to be revealed since the announcement was made public on Thursday.
Throughout the years, films have followed various paths, but there’s something truly exceptional about the originals. I hope Amazon recognizes this and produces a movie that has brought joy and excitement to countless individuals,” Dalton continued. “In any case, I wish them nothing but success. May they thrive in their endeavors. They’ll be striving to make a substantial profit, so let’s hope they create quality films as well.
