Unbeatable is having a combat game created by the geniuses behind Killer Instinct. Here’s all the info you need on it, covering characters, gameplay, and other aspects.
At Summer Game Fest 2025, during the Xbox Games Showcase, Invincible made its debut, offering more savory content for fans of the gore-filled superhero series to delve into.
This title joins a new resurgence of tag fighters in the space, alongside Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls and Riot’s 2XKO League of Legends fighting game.
There’s still much to explore, as the game hasn’t been completely developed yet. So far, here are some details we have, gathered during our recent trip to Skybound Studios before their big reveal of Invincible VS. Easy and clear, right?
Who is developing Invincible VS?
Quarter Up, a game development studio made up of ex-members from the Killer Instinct team at Double Helix Games, is responsible for creating Invincible. The name “Quarter Up” is derived from the ancient practice of placing a quarter atop an arcade cabinet to indicate that it’s your turn to play the next game.
In Invincible VS, there’s a significant amount of DNA from KI. However, the developers at Quarter Up informed us that they are collaborating closely with the show’s animators and creators, who are all based in Skybound’s same studio, to ensure it preserves everything fans cherish about the series.
What characters are in Invincible VS? Roster so far
Thus far, only a handful of playable characters have been confirmed for Invincible VS:
- Omni-Man
- Invincible
- Bulletproof
- Atom Eve
- Rex Splode
- Thula
- Lucen
Since the game is a 3 versus 3 battle game and boasts an extensive roster of characters from the Invincible comic series, it’s difficult to predict which ones will appear in the final version once it gets released.

Invincible VS mechanics
In simpler terms, Invincible features intense 2D team battles where you can manage up to three characters in each fight, switching between them at specific moments.
Focus on Combos
While we were playing an early version of the game at Skybound Studios, the creators of Quarter Up shared that their aim is for players to concentrate on tagging and creating combos. They mentioned that many tag games can turn into ‘one-player’ experiences due to continuous combo sequences, and they want to avoid this repetition in their game.
In essence, the Invincible VS fighter possesses a unique combo gauge. This gauge fills up with each strike, eventually halting your attack sequence at a specific hit count. But here’s an interesting twist: if you bring in another character, this gauge grows larger, enabling you to inflict more damage.

Sudden Death
If the timer reaches zero without any characters being eliminated, the game enters a ‘Sudden Death’ mode. During this mode, there is no more timer; instead, each player’s health serves as their personal timer. The health bars decrease over time unless a player manages to attack their opponent. The first player to run out of health loses the round in this intense, nerve-wracking phase.
Special moves & more
As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed an intriguing pattern in the control scheme of fighting games like GranBlue Fantasy VS and DNF Duel: special moves are assigned to a single button, but their execution depends on whether I hold a specific direction. This technique might make some hardcore players hesitate, but Invincible VS offers a rich array of other mechanics that ensure it remains accessible yet complex for gamers like me.
Each character possesses standard actions that can be amplified for increased damage or unique effects by holding down. A distinct button triggers dashes, while certain characters such as Atom Eve maintain a hover state indefinitely.

Performing a regular throw is similar to pressing a button, much like how you’d do it in a game like Street Fighter. However, back-throws are different; they function more like side switches instead. This maneuver leaves opponents open for additional combos. Unlike regular throws, back-throws don’t send them crashing to the ground and reset the fight to its neutral state.
Character interactions and breakable stages
Each character in Invincible VS comes preloaded with distinct interplay options based on whom they’re engaged with, resulting in amusing dialogues that echo the style of Injustice 2.

The game features two distinct categories of levels: ones that crumble and become chaotic as battles ensue, and others that remain stable. Additionally, it includes a unique ability that, when used strategically, alters the level entirely, transporting characters to a new location during a match.
Absolutely, the game we tested was an early prototype, and it was important to remember that certain features might be modified or adjusted in the future.
Invincible VS release window & all platforms
Invincible VS is set for release in 2026 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
Although the specific launch date isn’t confirmed just yet, rest assured that we’ll share additional information as it becomes available.
