Online, a sneak peek of director Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation titled “The Odyssey” has been accidentally released. The trailer is short, foreboding, and subtly grandiose – for those who can’t locate the leak or make it to the theater, here’s a glimpse of what transpires.
When Nolan directs a film, audiences flock to see it; there’s no other way to put it. It’s astounding that a three-hour, partially black-and-white biographical movie about the scientist who developed the atomic bomb grosses almost a billion dollars globally.
His upcoming film is a massive production: The Odyssey, a screen adaptation of the classic Greek epic poem, boasting a budget of approximately $250 million, an illustrious cast (featuring Tom Holland, Matt Damon, and Robert Pattinson), and filmed entirely using IMAX cameras.
Ever since the triumphant release of Oppenheimer, there’s been an incredible buzz surrounding The Odyssey. Given this fervor, it’s no wonder that the initial teaser found its way out as soon as it began playing alongside Jurassic World: Rebirth in cinemas.
The Odyssey trailer breakdown
In simple terms, the initial sneak peek for the movie titled The Odyssey runs approximately one minute and sixteen seconds, offering brief scenes featuring characters portrayed by Holland (as Telemachus), Damon, and Jon Bernthal.
Following the logos of Universal Pictures and Syncopy, the scene unfolds on a sea beneath a violet sky, transitioning to water flowing over sand and the outline of a Trojan horse etched upon the shore. A voice, seemingly that of John Leguizamo or Robert Pattinson, intones, “Darkness… Zeus’ law shattered, a realm bereft of a ruler since my master perished.
“He knew it was an unwinnable war. And then somehow… somehow he won it.”

The camera pans back to the scene of the ocean, gradually focusing on a solitary fragment of debris floating afar. At this point, Bernthal speaks, “I am unaware of Odysseus’ tale, since the fall of Troy.
In a more simplified manner: “Telemachus, son of Odysseus, is trying to figure out what happened to his father. Can you tell me when you last saw him?” (Addressed to Bernthal)
So, you’re curious about the rumors, eh? The chatter? Got a tale about Odysseus, don’t you? You do? Yes, you have a story to share? Some claim he’s wealthy, others say he’s destitute. Some say he’s deceased, while others insist he’s captive. What do you think?” Bernthal responds.
While he talks, scenes unfold showing Odysseus leading troops through bustling city streets, bravely entering a shadowy cavern on his own, and making his way towards a castle as dawn breaks.
Telemachus queries, ‘Are you saying jailed?’ To which Bernthal responds, ‘What sort of confinement… do you think could contain such a man as him?’
As a devoted admirer, I find myself left with an eerie sense of solitude at the closing scene of the trailer, where Damon’s portrayal of Odysseus lies amidst the debris, drifting aimlessly, clinging onto life in what seems like a perilous state.
