Every year on May 4th, it’s all about fresh “Star Wars” content on Disney+. This time around, we have a new anthology series titled “Star Wars: Tales from the Underworld“, focusing on some unsavory characters in the galaxy far, far away. Additionally, there are special features unveiling the wonders of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, including an insightful look into its popular Rise of the Resistance attraction.
However, I seem to be diverting from the point; the significant Star Wars update that’s coming up is actually the finale of Andor Season 2, which also happens to be the conclusion of the entire series. These episodes will wrap up the prequel.
If Star Wars doesn’t appeal to you, perhaps you might enjoy the latest episodes of Doctor Who instead. And if science fiction isn’t your cup of tea, maybe you’d prefer the special 100th episode of Big City Greens – I hope there’s something here for everyone!

10 Famous Actors You Forgot Were In Disney Channel Original Movies
1. Kat Dennings in The Scream Team
As a fan, I must say, it’s hard to miss Kat Dennings lately, with her appearances in shows like “2 Broke Girls” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not to mention her roles in independent films such as “Charlie Bartlett” and “Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist”. But even before these, she graced our screens in the Disney Channel Original Movie, “The Scream Team”, where she played Claire Carlyle. Set in a small New England town, “The Scream Team” tells the story of Claire and her brother as they get entangled with the ghosts that haunt their new home. Frankly, this movie might not be as well-known now, but it’s worth remembering for its poster, which is so painfully awkward, it’s frighteningly hilarious.
2. Christopher McDonald in Lemonade Mouth
Christopher McDonald has consistently delivered powerful performances throughout his lengthy career. Regardless if you recognize him as the villainous golfer Shooter McGavin from “Happy Gilmore” or by his more recent, remarkable work in the Emmy Award-winning TV series “Hacks”, he fully immerses himself into each character – even his role as Principal Stanley Brenigan in the 2011 Disney Channel Original Movie “Lemonade Mouth”. Based on Mark Peter Hughes’ novel of the same name, “Lemonade Mouth” tells the story of a diverse group of students who come together to form a band and an unexpected friendship after spending time in detention. The overly strict Principal Brenigan is determined to silence the high schoolers’ musical rebellion, humorously patrolling the school on his Segway. Although he may not appear frequently, he manages to steal the scenes he’s featured in.
3. Sarah Hyland in Geek Charming
With the rest of the cast from “Modern Family”, Sarah Hyland collected four Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Most famously known for her role as Haley Dunphy on the ABC sitcom, Hyland also showcased her talents elsewhere, such as in the 2011 Disney Channel Original Movie “Geek Charming”. In this production, she played Dylan, a character reminiscent of Haley who was fixated on high school popularity. Despite following a typical romantic comedy plotline, “Geek Charming” remains an enjoyable, light-hearted watch with a heartwarming message.
Sarah Hyland won four Screen Actors Guild Awards for her work in “Modern Family”. She also acted in the Disney Channel movie “Geek Charming”, where she played Dylan, a character similar to her role as Haley Dunphy. The movie is like a romantic comedy and has a pleasant message. It’s fun to watch.
4. Tyler James Williams in Let It Shine
As a proud supporter, I can’t help but share the incredible journey of Tyler James Williams. Known for his breakout role on “Everybody Hates Chris,” he has since elevated his success by winning a Golden Globe for his performance as Gregory Eddie on “Abbott Elementary.” Yet, amidst these remarkable accomplishments, it’s effortless to overlook his stellar work elsewhere. For instance, Williams was the leading star in a Disney Channel Original Movie, a contemporary reimagining of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” titled “Let It Shine.” In this captivating tale, he portrays Cyrus, an immensely talented rapper who emerges victorious in a songwriting competition orchestrated by his childhood friend-turned-pop sensation Roxy. However, there’s a twist: Roxy believes that Chris, Cyrus’ best friend, penned the winning song (Cyrus cleverly submitted a side-by-side image of the two of them). Believe it or not, “Let It Shine” is one of the more substantial DCOMs out there, and Williams’ exceptional rapping skills should never be underestimated.
5. Brie Larson in Right On Track
Brie Larson openly acknowledges to her fans that she played the lead in the Disney Channel Original movie “Right On Track,” and rightfully so. While she earned critical acclaim for her role in “Room” and commercial success with “Captain Marvel,” she remains particularly proud of her portrayal of Courtney Enders, a character based on real-life drag racing sisters, in the 2003 TV movie. At just 14 years old when the film was released, Larson sported a different look with her brunette hair and bangs. Despite winning an Oscar, she’ll forever cherish her time working on “Right On Track.
6. Kaley Cuoco in Alley Cats Strike
Kaley Cuoco is primarily known for her role as Penny on the CBS sitcom “The Big Bang Theory,” but long before that, in 2000, she made an appearance in the Disney Channel Original Movie titled “Alley Cats Strike.” Despite being a skilled tennis player during her youth, Cuoco convincingly portrayed a bowler in this movie. The plot revolves around an underdog high school bowling team gearing up for a competition against their rival city. With a catchy swing music soundtrack, “Alley Cats Strike” can be considered one of Disney’s more unique and less popular productions.
7. Adam DiMarco in Radio Rebel
When the second season of “White Lotus” debuted, viewers who were once fans of Disney Channel couldn’t help but recall Adam DiMarco from “Radio Rebel.” In the critically acclaimed HBO series, Di Marco portrays a wealthy, Stanford-educated young man named Albie who is overly concerned with his interactions with women. In contrast, in “Radio Rebel,” the popular Disney Channel Original Movie starring Debby Ryan, he played Gavin, a sensitive and creative character who helped our shy protagonist to emerge from her shell. In both roles, DiMarco portrays a “nice guy,” although in “Radio Rebel” his character is more one-dimensional. If DiMarco’s interest in Ryan’s character was solely because she was a “wounded bird” type, then the two characters would be identical.
8. America Ferrera in Gotta Kick It Up!
Initially recognized for her roles in the sitcoms “Ugly Betty” and “Superstore”, America Ferrera’s first on-screen appearance was in the Disney Channel Original Movie, “Gotta Kick It Up!”. This film, inspired by a real-life middle school dance team, cast Ferrera as Yolanda “Yoli” Vargas alongside Camille Guaty from “Prison Break” who played Daisy Salinas. In April 2021, Ferrera commemorated 20 years in the industry with a social media post featuring a picture from the DCOM. She expressed her pride and gratitude for the opportunities that lay ahead and the challenges she would face over the next two decades, stating, “I wish I could tell this little baby America that the next 20 years of her life will be filled with unbelievable opportunity to express her talent and plenty of challenges that will allow her to grow into a person, actress, producer, director, activist that she is very proud and grateful to be. We did it baby girl. I’m proud of us.
9. Nicholas Braun in Princess Protection Program
Prior to his breakout performance in the hit HBO series “Succession”, Nicholas Braun was a regular in high school roles. He played the part of an awkward teenager in various productions such as ABC’s short-lived series “10 Things I Hate About You”, Disney films like “Sky High” and “PROM”, and the Disney Channel Original Movie “Princess Protection Program”. Given that this movie also starred Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, who were major stars at Disney back then, it’s understandable if Braun’s role as Ed is easily overlooked. Interestingly, his character in this film aligns perfectly with his strengths: he is gentle, well-intentioned, and a tad anxious. In fact, his laid-back, clumsy demeanor in “Princess Protection Program” bears a striking resemblance to his character, Greg Hirsch, in “Succession”.
10. Katherine Heigl in Wish Upon A Star
Prior to gaining fame and awards for her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy, Katherine Heigl made her mark in the Disney Channel Premiere Film Wish Upon A Star, starring alongside future horror icon Danielle Harris. In this film, they portray a pair of sisters who, after making a wish on a shooting star, experience a Freaky Friday-like body swap. This magical twist offers both characters a lesson in self-discovery. Heigl plays the popular older sister with a jock boyfriend, while Harris takes on the role of the introverted, academically gifted younger sister. Wish Upon A Star served as one of Heigl’s first leading roles and laid the foundation for her future career in romantic comedies.
