As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that Lego Horizon Adventures has piqued my interest. Having spent countless hours building and rebuilding digital worlds in various sandbox games, I am always intrigued by innovative ideas that blur the line between virtual and physical play.

This week sees the debut of Lego Horizon Adventures on PS5 and PC, and upon initial observation, it appears to be a convincing virtual representation of a Lego toybox. This artistic approach is intentional, as co-developer Studio Gobo reveals that everything within the game is crafted from real Lego bricks, merely digitized for the game. Remarkably, if you have the suitable pieces and an aptitude for recognizing which bricks were employed, you can rebuild the game at home. Luckily, there’s an official Lego Horizon Tallneck set to aid in your building journey.

As a gamer, I can tell you that every element in Lego Horizon Adventures is crafted meticulously with actual Lego bricks. So, if by chance you have the right blocks at home, you could potentially recreate anything from this game’s world – be it machines, treasure chests, or even Mother’s Heart. Guerrilla’s senior community manager Anne van der Zanden shared this fascinating detail on the PS Blog.

What’s striking about Studio Gobo’s work is their dedication to replicating the aesthetic and atmosphere of the Horizon series authentically, right down to the intricate details and grand landscapes that Aloy encounters during her travels.

Initially, we followed a practical approach, recreating the historical buildings from the Horizon games as our foundation. However, someone discreetly inserted an authentic Lego set in the scene – likely the Lego gas station – and we thought, ‘this could be fun!’ The idea of transforming the Old World into a Lego universe seemed fitting.

The Lego Horizon Adventures game will be released on November 14th. Whether or not this intellectual property fits with the humorous style of a Lego game is yet to be determined, but if successful, it might mark the beginning of a series of family-friendly games that Sony intends to prioritize more.

If you’re a fan of Horizon and want to revisit the original game in the series, you might also be interested in the remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn. This enhanced edition boasts a major visual upgrade, making it comparable to the graphics of Horizon Forbidden West.
