Every upcoming DCU movie, TV show & Elseworlds project in development

Step into an epoch brimming with Deities and Beasts, delving into the initial phase of James Gunn’s DC Universe – as Superman graces the silver screen, here’s a summary of all forthcoming DC films and series, encompassing Elseworld ventures too.

In simpler terms, it seems that the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) is no more (hopefully), making way for the birth of a fresh start – the DCU (DC Universe). James Gunn and Peter Safran are set to initiate one of the most significant reboots in Hollywood, with Superman paving the path for an entirely new era of comic book adaptations.

In recent times, interconnected movie worlds, such as those in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), are no longer a new idea. However, it’s become clear that these expansive narratives can leave viewers puzzled or, at worst, struggling to keep up with who’s who and the significance of each storyline.

Gladly, Gunn’s been pretty transparent about the upcoming chapters in the DC Universe. For convenience, let’s categorize them into two groups: stories set within the primary universe (DCU) and those that explore other realities (Elseworlds). That means movies and TV shows not strictly adhering to the main timeline. As a gamer, I can’t wait to see where these narratives take us!

DCU movies

Supergirl

  • Release date: June 26, 2026
  • Director: Craig Gillespie
  • Cast: Milly Alcock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, Jason Momoa

As a game enthusiast, I’m eagerly waiting for my favorite DC Universe characters to grace the big screen again. It looks like we’ll have to wait until next summer for that, as they’re holding off on another movie. However, there might be a sneaky cameo by the Woman of Tomorrow before then, perhaps even in Superman’s scene. Fingers crossed!

In Tom King’s comic adaptation, the storyline of Supergirl will revolve around Milly Alcock’s character Kara Zor-El. As she turns 21 and travels through the cosmos with her pet dog Krypto by her side, an eventful journey ensues. Along the way, she encounters a young woman named Ruthye, portrayed by Eve Ridley, and embarks on a dangerous mission driven by vengeance.

The movie is being helmed by Craig Gillespie, who’s known for I, Tonya and Cruella, and it marks the first time we’ll see Jason Momoa portraying the character Lobo.

Clayface

  • Release date: September 11, 2026
  • Director: James Watkins
  • Cast: Tom Rhys Harries

In simpler terms, the first R-rated movie in the DC Universe will be about Clayface. This film is expected to have a tragic and gruesome theme, directed by James Watkins, who previously worked on remakes of Speak No Evil and Eden Lake. The main character, the villainous Clayface, will be portrayed by Tom Rhys Harries.

In addition to being penned by Mike Flanagan, this work promises brilliance. Yet, it’s essential to note that while Matt Reeves is involved as a producer, it has no connection to The Batman film.

In simpler terms, Safran explained during a DC event that Clayface is exclusively part of the DC Universe. The elements of Matt’s story, specifically the Batman Trilogy and the Penguin series, fall under this umbrella.

As a dedicated fan under the banner of DC Studios, I’m thrilled to share that we maintain a remarkable bond with Matt Reeves. However, beyond this connection, there are only these aspects. It was crucial for us to include Clayface in the DC Universe. This story marks the origin of a legendary Batman adversary, one we aspire to bring into our universe.

The Authority

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: María Gabriela de Faría

Among the initial projects unveiled for the DC Universe lineup was The Authority, which was planned to focus on a super-powered team similar to the Thunderbolts, albeit less malevolent than the Suicide Squad.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m eagerly anticipating the return of Maria Gabriela de Faria in her role as the Engineer for the upcoming Superman project. However, it seems that progress on this exciting venture has been moving at a snail’s pace.

Absolutely, it’s a possibility. However, it’s not progressing at an exceptionally fast pace as of now, but rest assured, it could indeed occur.

The Brave and the Bold

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: Andy Muschietti
  • Cast: TBC

In simpler terms, if The Brave and the Bold movie is produced, it’ll feature a different portrayal of Batman from the DC Universe, distinct from the one played by Robert Pattinson, as per Gunn’s statement.

During the initial DC Universe presentation, Gunn mentioned that the upcoming film would feature the Bat family, specifically Damian Wayne as Robin, and he described their relationship as a unique, almost paternal-filial tale between the two characters.

Andy Muschietti has confirmed that he’s still set to direct, but following The Flash, things have become rather unpredictable. Towards the end of 2024, he publicly announced a delay in the project. Gunn continues to mention a screenwriter is at work on it, though we’re unsure who this person might be. Moreover, THR has raised questions about whether the project actually exists or not.

Could it be possible that Gunn’s statement about Pattinson not being the DCU Batman isn’t final, since David Zaslav prefers a single Batman? And might “The Brave and the Bold” actually be a continuation or second part of “The Batman”?

Swamp Thing

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: James Mangold
  • Cast: TBC

In a new twist, the upcoming movie titled “Swamp Thing” will be helmed by director James Mangold, known for his work on “Ford v Ferrari” and “Logan”. This film promises to delve into the ominous past of its title character, presenting it as a chilling gothic horror production.

As per Gunn’s statements, the upcoming project takes inspiration from Alan Moore’s run of The Saga of Swamp Thing, and it holds great significance for director Mangold. At this point in time, the script development is still in progress, so a release date hasn’t been set yet.

Teen Titans (title TBC)

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

We don’t have much information about this upcoming movie, but what we do know is that it will center around the Teen Titans and Ana Nogueira, who wrote the Supergirl script, is working on the screenplay for it.

If Nightwing is part of the storyline, he might make another appearance in The Brave and the Bold (assuming this idea comes to fruition). Earlier this year, Ana submitted an engaging script for consideration, which she’s still working on refining. However, it’s important to note that the script isn’t finalized yet.

Deathstroke & Bane (title TBC)

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

In September 2024, it was disclosed that a movie centered around characters Bane and Deathstroke is being developed, with Matthew Orton (known for Moon Knight) responsible for penning the screenplay.

Gunn and Safran’s statement could be rephrased as follows: They’ve suggested that the upcoming plot might bear some resemblance to a tale involving Deathstroke and Bane, but they’ve emphasized that there’s currently no concrete information available about it.

Wonder Woman (title TBC)

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Gunn confirmed to EW: “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now.”

Apart from that, we’re clueless on the details; who will be in it, who will helm it, what the plot will revolve around, and when it will take place – all of which remains a mystery.

Adria Arjona is widely preferred by fans for the role, having previously collaborated with Gunn, and she holds significant value for Warner Bros. This upcoming movie promises to be substantial, though its production is currently set for the distant future.

Sgt. Rock

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: Luca Guadagnino
  • Cast: TBC

Set during World War II, this upcoming film is anticipated to portray the journey of Sergeant Rock, an exceptional yet ruthless soldier, who joins forces with a French resistance woman in a quest to locate the Spear of Destiny before it falls into Nazi hands.

The filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, known for his work on movies like Suspiria’s remake, Bones and All, and Call Me By Your Name, will take the helm for a screenplay written by Justin Kuritzkes, who has previously worked on films such as Challengers and Queer.

Initially, Daniel Craig was set to play the lead role, but scheduling issues led him to decline the part. Reports suggest that both Colin Farrell and Jeremy Allen White are being considered for the project.

Nevertheless, the progress had been temporarily paused this year. To put it in Gunn’s own terms, it “wasn’t quite hitting the mark creatively” for him and he believed that some adjustments were necessary before proceeding further.

Superman sequel (title TBC)

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: David Corenswet

As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Gunn has announced his plans for a sequel to the legendary Superman tale! However, unlike the straightforward continuation we might expect from Superman 2, this new story may not follow the same straightforward path.

He explained to Entertainment Weekly that the project he’s currently involved with has some similarities, but it isn’t strictly speaking a direct Superman sequel.

Could it possibly be? The most likely scenario suggests a World’s Finest film, potentially integrating Pattinson’s Batman into the DC Universe. However, this is all speculation, so we’ll have to wait for further details (which might not come until at least another year).

DCU TV shows

Peacemaker Season 2

  • Release date: August 21, 2025
  • Cast: John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn

For nearly four years now, John Cena’s character, a gun-wielding, helmet-donning anti-hero, has transitioned from the big screen to television in Max’s Peacemaker. This character has been instrumental in thwarting the Butterflies threat (and even going as far as calling the Justice League “disorganized” for their lateness).

In simpler terms, the balance of power in DC has undergone a significant shift, and Peacemaker Season 2 is being marketed as a major event for the franchise. This is particularly exciting because characters like Merced’s Hawkgirl, Fillion’s Guy Gardner, and Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord will be making an appearance.

Krypto

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Previously this year, a fan penned a letter to Gunn expressing, “Should we receive an independent animated series centered around Krypto, my happiness would be guaranteed.” In response, Gunn said, “You’ve found yourself in for a treat.

He mentioned that there were some entertaining, annual short films featuring Krypto, which followed Superman, as he put it in February: “We’ve got these delightful mini-Krypto films coming out every year!

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been keeping an eye on every single one. This digital companion is a real character, but not in a good way – he’s downright awful! Yet, it’s a game designed for families, and it’s just so much fun and quirky. To put it simply, it’s pretty darn cool.

Safran added: “It’s definitely the Krypto you fall in love with in Superman. He’s a terrible dog.”

Lanterns

  • Release date: 2026 (TBC)
  • Cast: Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Nathan Fillion

Following his initial appearance as Green Lantern in Superman, Guy Gardner is set to reappear; however, the focus of the show, titled Lanters, won’t primarily revolve around him. Instead, it will delve into the investigations of Hal Jordan (played by Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (portrayed by Aaron Pierre), who are probing a murder in Nebraska. The series is reportedly influenced by No Country for Old Men and True Detective.

This is quite an impressive arc for characters adorned with magical rings. Tom King and Damon Lindelof are part of the team as executive producers, while Chris Mundy is taking charge as showrunner. In Safran’s terms, it promises to be a significant, high-quality production on par with HBO.

Blue Beetle animated series

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Initially debuting as the DCEU wound down, Blue Beetle was a film worth watching. James Gunn hasn’t forgotten its value, and Xolo Maridueña is set to reprise his role in an upcoming animated series. Although there are rumors it might be released in 2026, the official confirmation remains unclear, so keep checking for updates.

Creature Commandos Season 2

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: Indira Varma, Sean Gunn, Alan Tudyk, David Harbour, Frank Grillo

Before Superman, Creature Commandos technically launched the DCU.

In this animated series, the characters Rick Flag Sr (played by Frank Grillo), The Bride (Indira Varma), who is also Eric Frankenstein’s estranged wife, Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), G.I. Robot (Sean Gunn), Weasel (also Sean Gunn), and Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao) are on a journey to the country of Pokolistan where they aim to safeguard a princess.

In December 2024, it was officially announced that there will be a second season. Translation: More monsters are on the way! We’re returning for Season 2, but rest assured, there’s still lots to enjoy in this current season as well. He made this announcement on Threads.

Mister Miracle

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Tom King is among Gunn’s most trusted advisors, making it unsurprising that one of his favorite comics is receiving an accurate animated adaptation: the highly esteemed “Mister Miracle.

King will serve as showrunner, and it’ll be based on his award-winning 12-issue series.

Not a single jail cell can confine him. No device can restrain him. He’s Scott Free, globally renowned as Mister Miracle, the most accomplished escape artist in history. Can he manage the ultimate feat – escaping from death itself?” This is how DC’s logline could be rephrased in a more natural and easy-to-read manner.

There’s been a catastrophic turn of events in the idyllic life that Scott and his valiant spouse Big Barda have created on Earth. As war escalates between their home planets Apocalypse and New Genesis, it appears that Scott’s malicious biological father Darkseid has successfully acquired the Anti-Life Equation – a lethal tool capable of granting Darkseid absolute control over the cosmos.

With towering piles of casualties on either side escalating, it’s only Mister Miracle who can halt the carnage and bring tranquility back. Yet, a horrific force from the Anti-Life Equation might have seeped into his consciousness, twisting his perception, resurfacing past agony, and potentially shattering the bliss he shares with the woman he adores.

Scott Free, Mister Miracle embarks on a thrilling, funny, emotional adventure filled with challenges from both the everyday and extraordinary realms. As the son of a divine being brought up by a demon, he struggles to rescue his family, preserve his world, and perhaps find redemption for himself.

Paradise Lost

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

The live-action television series “Paradise Lost” will focus on the Amazons of Themyscira, with events unfolding before the birth of Wonder Woman, potentially paving the way for her arrival in the DC Universe.

In his first video about the DCU’s slate, Gunn teased that it’d be inspired by Game of Thrones.

He shared with EW that “John Milton’s Paradise Lost is progressing well, though it’s advancing at a leisurely pace. I must admit, I have a strong attachment to this project,” he said. However, details about who is working on the script, which actors will be involved, and when it might be released remain uncertain.

Waller

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: Viola Davis

Initially slated for release prior to Peacemaker Season 2, the spin-off focusing on Viola Davis’ character Amanda Waller has encountered some difficulties and is currently being revamped. As per Gunn’s statement in February, it’s been a challenging journey for this TV series.

In other words, she has previously made an appearance within the DC Universe, taking on the role of commanding the Creature Commandos, led by Rick Flag. However, it remains undetermined as to when or where she will reappear next.

Booster Gold

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

In a light-hearted, comedic take, the show centers around Mike Carter, a character hailing from the future who leverages rudimentary advanced tech to travel back to the present and feign superhero status.

In the year 2500, Mike, once a fallen football hero, finds himself in trouble after using a time-travel exhibit at the Metropolis Space Museum, as per Variety’s report.

In 2024, a showrunner dropped out, and since then, no updates have been given about who will write the series or portray the main character. While Kumail Nanjiani and Chris Pratt are frequently suggested for the role, Gunn has yet to confirm any details.

“We’re not quite there yet, in terms of Booster Gold,” he told the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

The scripts aren’t fully satisfactory yet. Since the start of our project at DC, it has been decided that we will only begin shooting once the screenplays are completely ready. We won’t start filming until I am content with the script.

Elseworlds movies

The Batman Part 2

  • Release date: October 1, 2027
  • Director: Matt Reeves
  • Cast: Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright

This is the big one; arguably bigger than any other DC movie in development

As a passionate gamer eagerly awaiting the next adventure with the Caped Crusader, I’ve been anxiously following updates on Batman Part 2. Initially slated for an October 2025 release, it seemed like my dreams were about to come true. But, fate had other plans; first, the release was pushed back to 2026, then to 2027. Each delay only intensified my anticipation, as I patiently wait for the streets of Gotham City to once again be patrolled by the Dark Knight.

It seems that Matt Reeves is recognized for carefully crafting his scripts and dealing with some private challenges off-screen. However, by June 2025, he had completed the full script, which has set things in motion at last.

As per another source, it’s planning to begin production in January 2026 following the completion of Robert Pattinson’s work on Dune Part 3.

The primary concern revolves around whether The Batman 2 continues as a standalone Elseworlds production, or if it integrates into the DC Universe (DCU)?

“It really comes down to whether or not it makes sense,” Reeves told MTV News.

The exciting part is that we’ve developed a story we’re calling ‘The Epic Crime Saga,’ and this forms the core of our project. It’s significant to me to bring this narrative to life.

I can’t predict what the future holds regarding ‘The Batman: Part II’, but at the moment, I’m focused on preparing for its shooting. My primary goal is to make it an exceptional film, which is crucial.

Could it be possible that Gunne’s repeated claims of being “deeply engaged” with The Brave and the Bold are simply a cover, and instead, Robert Pattinson could end up as the DC Universe’s Batman?

Constantine 2

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: Francis Lawrence
  • Cast: Keanu Reeves

For a while now, Reeves and Lawrence have frequently expressed their desire to revisit Constantine. Lately, there have been substantial advancements regarding the potential follow-up film.

In 2022, it became known that Warner Bros was developing a sequel, with Avika Goldsman writing the script and J.J. Abrams serving as producer. Reeves shared that Gunn indicated it would still proceed under the new management – it would simply be classified as an Elseworlds production.

2025 saw Reeves and Lawrence sharing their concept with DC, who responded positively, stating, “Alright… Let’s give it a go and write the script” (as reported by Deadline).

Regardless of what occurs next, it will take place within the same universe as the 2005 movie, and Keanu Reeves hinted that John Constantine’s suffering will continue, adding a touch of playful taunt to his statement.

Dynamic Duo

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: Arthur Mintz
  • Cast: TBC

In a nutshell, “Dynamic Duo” is slated to be an animated movie that delves into the bond between Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, who are both Robin characters in the DC comics. This story falls under the category of Elseworlds, meaning it doesn’t align with the DC Universe or the world of Batman.

However, it is being produced by Gunn and Reeves.

For quite some time, I’ve harbored the desire to create a movie featuring Arthur and Swaybox, and seeing this project become Dynamic Duo – a remarkable and distinctive Batman and Robin tale tailored for families – is a cherished aspiration, as expressed by Reeves in a statement.

It won’t be like other animated films from DC – it’s set to feature puppetry.

Static Shock

  • Release date: TBC
  • Director: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

2022 saw reports of a potential animated movie for Static Shock, but viewers may not get to watch it just yet. As per Gunn, he’s not working on any Static Shock projects within the DC Universe at this moment due to complications regarding the rights.

It’s not necessarily ruled out that he might show up in a different movie or series someday, but it’s best not to expect it too eagerly.

Elseworlds TV shows

The Penguin Season 2

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: Colin Farrell

It appears that The Penguin Season 2 is yet to receive approval from Gunn or any representative at DC, and it seems like Farrell and the team aren’t overly eager about producing it. Nevertheless, with all the hints dropped, we can’t completely dismiss the possibility of its creation.

It’s confirmed that Farrell will once again take on his character in The Batman sequel, and director Matt Reeves hinted to THR that there could be more to come, possibly even another season.

However, as the day comes to a close, it seems to us that there are still countless tales waiting to be shared… How might we create something unique and captivating?” he mused.

We’re continuing discussions about potential plans for a second season of The Penguin, including its broader context and future developments. At this point, however, the specifics remain unknown as we’re only beginning to explore these possibilities.

Additionally, Farrell voiced apprehension that the harsh finale of the initial season might pose challenges in furthering the narrative. He admitted, “It’s not something we can’t do, but it certainly becomes a steeper incline.

The Batman Part 2 is the priority, but don’t be surprised if Oz Cobb’s saga continues on HBO.

My Adventures with Green Lantern

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Among the three upcoming DC animated series, my experiences with Green Lantern stand out as those aimed at a younger audience.

The story follows Jessica Cruz, a high school student, whose ordinary life takes an extraordinary turn when a Green Lantern Power Ring descends from the sky and selects her to become its protector, as reported by Variety.

Jake Wyatt and Stephanie Gonzaga are down as co-executive producers, but that’s all we know.

DC Super Powers

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Set in the Alliance School for Heroes, DC Super Powers is another animated series.

They will advance their abilities, guided by Principal Martian Manhunter, with aspirations of eventually graduating and taking on roles as Earth’s future protectors, alongside Lightning, Flash, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, Green Lantern, and Terra.

Starfire

  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: TBC

Starfire’s story, the final animated series in production, delves into her origins and continues as she flees her home planet Tamaran, embarking on cosmic travels.

She’ll also encounter “cosmic motorcyclist Crush, greenery-admiring Fern, and the mystical Princess Amethyst from the realm of Gems”. Together, they will delve into the farthest corners of the DC cosmos, rescue Space Dolphins, ride rainbow-hued nebulae, and fearlessly venture into uncharted territories.
