‘Every Summer After’: Series Adaptation of Carley Fortune Novel Ordered at Amazon

As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for heartwarming romantic tales, I can hardly contain my excitement over Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of Carley Fortune‘s “Every Summer After,” titled “Every Year After.” Having grown up on a steady diet of classic love stories and the occasional summer romance flick, this series promises to scratch that itch for nostalgia while offering something fresh and modern.

It’s been confirmed that Amazon Prime Video will produce a television series based on Carley Fortune’s novel “Every Summer After,” as reported by EbMaster.

In my perspective, I’m thrilled about the upcoming series titled “Every Year After.” The talented Leila Gerstein has been tasked with bringing this story to life on the silver screen, serving not only as the adapter but also as the showrunner and an executive producer. Moreover, the esteemed Shondaland Productions, led by Shonda Rhimes, will join forces as executive producers, further bolstering my anticipation for this promising production. Can’t wait to see it unfold!

“Every Summer After has a unique significance in my heart, as well as that of readers worldwide who feel deeply attached to Sam and Percy’s romantic tale,” Fortune remarked. “I’m thrilled about collaborating with Amazon to extend their journey, moving it beyond the book, onto television screens, and touching the hearts of viewers globally.”

“In six summers, you find love; one instant changes everything; a week decides your fate. ‘Every Year After’ is an entertaining, expansive tale about romance, pondering the possibility that your initial love could be your eternal soulmate.”

“Originally published in 2022, ‘Every Summer After’ gained significant popularity among the BookTok online community. The related hashtag on TikTok garnered over 81 million views. It stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for 14 weeks and has sold more than a million copies so far. The author also penned ‘This Summer Will Be Different’ and ‘Meet Me at the Lake’.”

“Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, is excited to share ‘Every Summer After’ with our worldwide Prime Video viewers as ‘Every Year After.’ Carley Fortune’s best-selling book combines heartwarming nostalgia and deep romance in an unforgettable way. With Leila Gerstein’s direction, audiences will embark on a journey through this compelling tale that truly captures its spirit and emotional richness.”

Most recently, writer extraordinaire, Gerstein, is responsible for crafting the Hulu series “Saint X,” an adaptation from the novel penned by Alexis Schaitkin. She’s also known for developing the CW series “Hart of Dixie,” which enjoyed a successful four-season run. In 2017, Gerstein was a valued member of the writing and production team behind the Emmy Award-winning best drama series, “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Among her other impressive writing accomplishments are contributions to “Gossip Girl,” “The O.C.,” “Claws,” and “Looking for Alaska.”

“Gerstein expressed great enthusiasm about turning this charming, love-filled tale into a TV show,” he shared.

Gerstein is represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME), Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment, and Yorn Levine. On the other hand, Fortune is associated with Root Literary, WME, and Lichter Grossman.
