As a devoted fan who’s been following Jujutsu Kaisen since its inception, I must say that the Shibuya Incident arc remains my all-time favorite. The chaos it unleashed not only shook the very foundation of the Jujutsu world but also brought about an extraordinary transformation in Yuji’s character.
Among all the Jujutsu Kaisen arcs, there are some that truly stand out as exceptional. But if you’re asking for my personal favorite arc from the manga, I must say it’s challenging to pick just one due to their unique qualities. However, many fans seem to favor certain arcs over others, so I recommend exploring each one to find your favorite!
Jujutsu Kaisen is a highly acclaimed battle shonen manga from recent years. This series was released in 2018 and consists of 11 story arcs, with some being as brief as four chapters while the longest spans over 63 parts. Each arc contributes to expanding our understanding of this universe and propels the sorcerers’ progress.
As a typical high school student, I find myself unwillingly pulled into the realm of cursed spirits in Jujutsu Kaisen. Throughout the storyline, I cross paths with fellow sorcerers and join forces with them to vanquish increasingly formidable adversaries.
In the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, the story reaches its end, primarily revolving around the confrontation with the antagonists.
11. Cursed Child Arc
Number of Chapters: 4
The initial segment of this manga establishes the story’s framework, but unlike other segments, the Cursed Child Arc introduces relatively few characters and offers limited memorable moments. Moreover, its brevity – just four chapters – makes it feel fleeting.
Despite other considerations, the moment when Yuji swallowed Sukuna’s finger to save Megumi remains one of the most impactful scenes in the manga. It was at this point that the narrative really picked up pace as Yuji found himself thrust into the limelight amidst the tumultuous events unfolding.
10. Fearsome Womb Arc
Number of Chapters: 18
This plotline traces the journey of a three-person team during their initial year, embarking on a joint task that leads them into confrontation with a high-level curse. In an unexpected turn, this mission was orchestrated by senior authorities as a means to eliminate Yuji Itadori. Regrettably, these higher powers didn’t flinch at the cost, sacrificing Megumi and Nobara alongside Yuji in the process.
In the story, Yuji perishes before Megumi following Sukuna’s body takeover, but this was merely the start of the antagonist’s scheme as he manages to control Yuji due to Binding Vows. Although this particular arc is engaging, other arcs provide more significant contributions to the overall plot development.
9. Death Painting Arc
Number of Chapters: 10
This arc covers the most difficult mission the first years went through where they unravel the mystery behind the curse of the Yasohachi Bridge. Yuji and Nobara fight against the siblings Eso and Kechizu while Megumi stays behind to deal with the special-grade Finger Bearer.
The threesome, quite unexpectedly, emerged victorious from every battle, which filled their mentor, Satoru Gojo, with pride. This was their final mission before the turmoil in Shibuya, a fact that adds significance to the events. Unfortunately, the Death Painting Arc doesn’t deliver the same intense impact as the Shibuya Incident or the Culling Game due to having fewer climactic moments.
8. Itadori’s Extermination Arc
Number of Chapters: 7
Although the plot proceeds smoothly, it seems less impactful compared to the Shibuya storyline. Yuta Okkotsu steps into the limelight as Yuji’s executioner, demonstrating his impressive abilities. On the other hand, Yuji finds himself in another whirlwind of turmoil because the higher authorities continue to pursue him.
Yuta confides that he’s secretly an ally dispatched by Gojo on his behalf. Moreover, Megumi reappears, reuniting with Yuji, and together they strategize their upcoming actions to set things right.
7. Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc
Number of Chapters: 23
Due to Principal Gakuganji’s scheme, the annual sister school exchange between Tokyo and Kyoto students takes a dark turn. Instead of fostering unity, this event transforms into a means for them to confront Yuji Itadori, who has recently resurfaced after being absent for several weeks.
The skirmish between the two schools comes to an abrupt end when curses assault the institution. The most captivating aspect of this storyline undoubtedly lies in the alliance formed by Yuji and Todo, who band together to subdue Hanami. This segment also introduces fresh characters and boasts one of the finest fight sequences featured throughout the series.
6. Vs Mahito Arc
Number of Chapters: 13
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to say that Nanami continues to be one of those characters who really resonate with fans. It’s no surprise, given how impactful his introduction arc was. One scene that truly stands out is when he shows a tender protectiveness towards Yuji, viewing him more as a child than just a weapon. It’s moments like these that make this series so heartwarming and memorable.
Additionally, Mahito stands out as an captivating antagonist. Engaging with his unique curse helps Yuji prepare for future obstacles. Moreover, it’s revealed that being a host for Sukuna unexpectedly brings benefits.
5. Perfect Preparation Arc
Number of Chapters: 15
Gege Akutami dedicated this story arc to Maki Zenin, who, like her sister, suffered gender-based prejudice in a male-dominated Jujutsu society. However, she successfully demonstrates that the clan had underestimated her capabilities. Despite their best attempts to eliminate her, Maki manages to live on, thanks to Mai’s selfless act.
Straightaway, she avenges her sister ruthlessly by wiping out the whole tribe. Despite the plotline feeling somewhat hastily concluded, the intense emotion involved and Maki achieving liberation from her bondage make it among the most impactful arcs in the comic series.
4. Shinjuku Showdown Arc
Number of Chapters: 50
This is the final and most controversial arc of Jujutsu Kaisen. While Gojo vs Sukuna is the best fight in the manga, the story gradually goes downhill after that. Even the ending is unsatisfactory to fans and rightfully so. Regardless, the fight against Sukuna has several hype moments as every sorcerer joins the battle.
Despite the recurring pattern and Sukuna’s seemingly unbreakable protective shield, the story becomes less thrilling after a while due to its repetitiveness. Additionally, Yuta’s unexpected assumption of Gojo’s body resolves nothing in the plot twist, and the battle concludes abruptly with Nobara’s unexpected reappearance.
3. Culling Game Arc
Number of Chapters: 63
Among the many captivating storylines in the series, this particular arc stands out as both lengthy and engaging. The Culling Games serve as an introduction to various characters who are manipulated by Kenjaku for his entertainment. It’s a grueling competition where participants fight each other under tight regulations, earning points through eliminating their opponents.
If every participant perishes in the Culling Game, the fusion of Master Tengen with the entire Japanese populace will occur, but it’s the sorcerers who must prevent this disaster from unfolding. In the manga, before the Culling Game concludes, a battle between Gojo and Sukuna commences to ensure that such a merger never takes place.
2. Gojo’s Past Arc
Number of Chapters: 15
As a dedicated fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I can’t help but feel a mix of warmth and sorrow as I delve into Gojo’s deeply moving arc. His backstory, coupled with his complex relationship with Geto, has provided so many insightful answers that were left unanswered in the prequel movie.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my admiration for this incredible arc in JJK. It delves deep into the emotional bond between Riko and me (the strongest duo), and her tragic demise sets the stage for an overwhelming wave of sorrow and tragedy. This arc is rich with friendship, heart-wrenching moments, and soul-stirring drama that culminates in Gojo’s enlightenment. Without a doubt, it deserves its place as the second-best JJK arc, leaving me on the edge of my seat eagerly awaiting the next installment.
1. Shibuya Incident Arc
Number of Chapters: 58
Despite passing several years, the Shibuya Incident continues to stand out as the most exceptional arc in Jujutsu Kaisen. The turbulence in Shibuya Ward rearranged the usual order and flipped the Jujutsu world on its head. Yuji’s character growth reached its zenith during his battle with Mahito.
Additionally, it became evident that the Jujutsu world is in a state of disarray without Gojo, as even the most skilled sorcerers found themselves powerless against the catastrophic forces of the curse powers.
This week marks the conclusion of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series. If you’re curious about how Gojo’s story wraps up in the finale, be sure to check it out. For further insights into dark sorcery, explore our guide on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 and our comprehensive list of all character casualties.
